Question about IOGear COMBO ION GHD135C160 160 GB Hard Drive

IOGEAR COMBO not recognised


I am having a problem with my IOGear COMBO external hard drive... it is no longer being recognised by my computer. I have had it over two years and never had a problem until recently.

I have tried to connect using the firewire port as well as the USB port but it's still not recognised.

There is power to the device as I can see the blue light at the front. However it is now flashing intermitantly... one flash and then a pause followed by six continuous flashes and then a pause again before the sequence is repeated again.

Can anyone help and advise me what the flashing means and if there is anyway i can get my computer to recognise the IOGEAR devices again.

By the way i am running an XP machine and have the IOGEAR GHD135C160 model

Is your hard drive detected by the computer? Did you try changing the USB ports? You can check if the drive is detected by Right click on taskbar > properties > startmenu > customize > advanced > scroll down completely and select system administration tools "Display on the all programs menu" > ok. Click on start > all programs > administrative tools > computer management > double click on storage. click on disk management(local) here you should see your drive. If you dont then the drive is probably not detected. If you see, you can just re-format it from here and it will appear in your my computer.

make sure your usb drive is plug in USB 2.0 compatible.. make sure your computer supports USB 2.0... good luck have a nice day. . .

My computer can not detect my external hard drive

My new computer can not recognize my iogear GHD 335C external drive . I had it for three years, nothing happened to it . I hear a spinning disc noise . The lights on the drive are on and I can't remember...

first check the usb port of your new computer for which you are connecting the drive .The noise comes when the drive is read mby the system .Please try with different usb port and even then if it is not working there is some problem with the drive

Can't access Ion Drive

You have to check also Disk Management while your HD is connected to the your computer.

First, if you can detect the HD in your Device Manager but not under the Disk Management, then the IOGEAR Tech Support is could be correct.

If that's the case, you need to contact IOGEAR and ask them to send you a USB Y-Cable. That Y-Cable is FREE. IOGEAR will just ask for your billing address, and they can send you one for free.

That Y-Cable has two type-A USB and one mini-B USB ports. The two type-A should be connected to the computer, and the other end to your HD. Having two USB connected to your computer, that should be enough for the HD to get power from the two USB ports.

If that did not help, I would suggest to connect your HD into different computer to see if you can detect it.

If you do detect it, back up all the files, reformat your HD, change the drive letter, and then retrieve all the files back.

I lost the power adaptor on IOGEAR COMBO Ghd

You need to use 12V; 5V Dual power adapter.

You may also need to contact IOGEAR and order the power adapter directly from them. They can deliver it directly to you.

USB IOGEAR not recognise

Most portable HDDs show up without drivers being required, so, assuming other drives or USB devices show up the general assumption is that either the circuit board in the enclosure has failed or the HDD has failed.

Assuming it doesn't work on other PCs and that other USB devices do, take the external drive to your local computer shop and ask to have the drive tested and moved into a new enclosure. If the drive is OK then the people at the computer store can simply transfer the drive into a new enclosure and it will work. If it fails testing you will likely need to send the drive to a Pro, I would recommend Armor-IT Data Recovery(listed in the FixYa directory).

You can swap the enclosures yourself if you have basic hand tools and are feeling handy but it might be nice to have the techs at the local shop test the drive.

Hi there. you may try changing the drive letter by going to disk management. Right click "my computer"icon and select manage. Go to Disk Management. check the size of the drive you're having problem with. If it still shows that there are files saved, right click the drive letter you're having problem with. Change the drive letter to Y. Try accessing after.

Iogear problem

Hi. What device are you using? I suggest that you check if the keyboard is hooked up to the correct port. You will see underneath the KVM an icon that looks like a mouse and a keyboard. Make sure that everything is hooked up correctly. It should be okay once you connect them properly. Press "scroll lock" twice.
