Question about GE Advantium SCA1001HSS Convection Microwave Oven

4 Answers

GE Advantiumk 120 - Complete Blackout Model Number: SCA 1001 HSS 01 Brand: GE Age: 1 - 5 years Thanks a lot for your expertise. It's a total blackout mid cook cycle. The house breaker and outlet are fine. This GE Advantium Microwave/Convection Oven -- SCA 1001 HSS 01 -- is built into the old cabinet in a crazy way. I have decent access to the front, bottom and right sides but not the rest. Any chance I can check/replace the main fuse without removing the unit? This would save me 1,000 headaches. Someone mentioned on the phone it's possible to access through the control panel. What's the step by step for this? If the fuse is good what next? Where can I find fuse installation instructions etc... and diagrams? How difficult will this be for an untrained but motivated guy?

Do you have a dis-assembly diagram for Step 1 and something that would coach me through step 2 if it turns out not to be the fuse?

    It
sounds like I might be able to access that fuse while the unit is still
    installed, is that correct?

Is grill screwed in from top down or can I just
shift the grill to the left as you suggested in the last paragraph—

    Do
you have an assembly diagram by chance?

    The
filter board assembly fuse you describe … is that different than the fuse you
    describe in the first paragraph?

    The
exploded view of the unit I found seems to show one fuse up toward the fan and one in
the upper right front. I understood that the one in the upper right front was
the main one and likely the culprit… Am I mistaken?

Thank you for your thoughts and warning. 1 - Do you have a
diagram by chance? Would make this easier. 2 - Why do you think my warranty is
still good? I was told I have one year, nothing more…3 - If it’s not the fuse and I am not under warranty what is the
likely problem and why is it dangerous if it’s simply replacing a piece and
    reassembling carefully? Thanks, Tedd

I was pretty disappointed in the advice so far. These fellows might have been trying but they didn't respond directly to my questions, they were vague enough that it's as if I had no advice and they did not answer in a timely fashion today and now I need to push this off another weekend and upset my tenants. How do I get a refund?

  • tedd_determa Oct 04, 2009

Hey, I have missed my deadline to get this project complete and I am left with postponing the fix and upsetting my tenants or bringing it in to be repaired. No doubt you are a real expert and have the solution but now I am doing family stuff and then back into my work week. Who do I contact to get a refund? Thanks, Tedd

The fuse is located on the control panel which is at the back of the base.and control panel, is located at the top.the fuse is not on the control panel its located on the control board.you will just have to remove the oven.this is the only procedure.but once the unit is removed then its not to tough.the sides are just fitted by screws.as replacing the fuse from control board also called main board is very simple.you just need to pull the fuse out by a plyer/clipper or with a thin knife.fitting is also easy there is a fuse holder.just keep the fuse on the holder and slowly press the fuse without applying force.it will fit easily.the cost of fuse is near to $3.you can get it from ------ www.radioshack.com ------ if the fuse is ok then its time for new main board. you can get the parts from www.partselect.com ------------------- this will help.please do rate the solution.thank you for using fixya.keep updated.

there is a fuse inside the oven - located behind the control panel You may have to remove the grille on top to gain access to the screw that holds control panel on . If you follow the incoming wire from the cord it goes to this fuse , snap in type about inch long and 1/4 inch around.
    ----------------

Use a voltmeter and check from both sides of the fuse to ground ( a metal screw) on the appliance . If you have 120 volts AC on both sides then the electronic board has failed.

    --------------------

There is a filter board assembly in these machines that does have a 20amp one time fuse. However i will say that normally this is not the problem with these. That fuse normally will blow due to the main control board. The fuse is bnot that hard to get to thou if you want to check it. From the top of the unit remove the screws holding the front top grille in place. Then holding the grille slide it left a little this will unlock the grille and then you can take it right off. From there the fuse is mounted on a little board on the right hand side of the microwave. You will see it towards the top of the unit mounted to the inside wall.
    -----------

    thanks.keep updated.

However if you find that this fuse is good, since the unit is new i would call your number in your owner's manual for service. Microwave's can be very dangerous to work on, any thing beyond the fuse call a professional. The unit is still under warranty. Either you can check the fuse or call the manufacturer and have the tech when he comes show you where it is.

The owner's manual will address any child lock.

If you don't have you r manual, maybe it;s a GE brand, since you posted in a GE category?

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

If it's not a GE, feel free to contact me directly with your brand and full model number form the tag in or on the unit for more free help.

A hard reset may work. Unplug it for a a couple of minutes, then try again.

Yes, the fuse is bad. Be sure to use a ceramic fuse of the same current (Amps) rating.

They're available at appliance parts stores, hardware stores, Lowe's, Wal-Mart, etc.

Replacing the interior lamp inside the microwave on the top.

Yes, Bobby, it can be done. Before you begin, though, go to Home Depot and look in the tool department. There, ask for a "Husky Pro #66604". It's a 1/4" and 5/16" drive 90 degree ratchet that's about 4 inches long. While you're there, pick up a #2 1/4" drive phillips screwdriver bit. You'll use both of these to do the light. Both for about $12. UNPLUG YOUR MICROWAVE! Stand on a small ladder in front of the Microwave (MW), remove the 2 screws that hold the vent louver in place and remove the louver. You'll now see a black plastic grill (just above the door handle)remove the 2 screws with your new tools and remove the grill and the metal box that covers the relay. Now remove the 2 screws holding the horizontal metal panel that the box was sitting on. Now gently lift that panel up, (don't try to remove it) and you'll see the lamp. It's the one with 2 white wires going to it and a shiny metal cover over it. Place your index finger on the back of the cover of the lamp and gently pull toward you and lift at the same time. This will release the catch and allow you to pull it all the way out to get to the lamp. There ya go! Simple!

Advantium 120 Complete black out

Since you've already checked the fuses, my next suspects would be the thermal cutouts (or thermostats or thermal fuses, depending on your exact model number). One would be located on the right side of the chassis right above the magnetron. The other would be located on the left side of the chassis. It's the flame sensor. You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383 Advantium 120 is not actually the model number - you have to look on the tag around the door or inside the cavity for that. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk I appreciate your thoughtful rating.
