Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I have a liteon HD-A740GX Hard Drive/DVD recorder. It has stopped recognizing blank discs for recording. I installed the updates and cleaned the lense several times. It is still not working. When I put a blank disc in it reads it, prepares it, and then ejects the disc telling me to insert a recordable disc. Granted these are generic discs but they always worked before.

I had hoped to find a solution that would avoid me spending a lot of money. I will be dissapointed if I get charged for this.

If cleaning the lens of the player does not help that means the lens is got very weak.there are many users facing this problem of lens getting weak and disc getting ejected after inserting in the player.the only option is to get the lens replaced.get it replaced from local hardware repair shop. --------------- this is the only option to make it work.some go for new instead of replacing the lens only in case if the unit is very old.other wise getting lens replaced is a good option. ---------- thanks.this will help.please do rate the solution.thank you for using fixya.keep updated.

you your self also can replace the lens.if you are familiar with replacing it.just order the replacement lens from
    www.radioshack.com
    --------------
the unit needs to be disassembled.its just fitted on some screws.it requires proper screw driver and a thin knife.to open the unit.

How can I transfer recordings to a hard drive?

Any external USB hard drive that uses a 3.5" hard drive (the larger drives they use in desktops) will work. These all come with an external power adapter you must plug into the wall.

The external hard drive units that use the smaller 2.5" hard drives are the ones they use in laptops. These require much less power, and can be powered by the PC's USB port although some do come with an optional power adapter. However the Dish receiver does not send enough power to its USB port to power the hard drive, which is why the tech told you to get one that has an external power supply.

Even then the DVR uses a drive format that your computer may not recognize. I don't know if there are tools out there that will let you connect a hard drive from a DVR, read and convert the TV shows stored there.

Another option is to buy a DVD recorder. This is like a VCR, only it uses a DVD disc and not a video tape. Connect the DVD recorder to the outputs on the DVR, and then set the DVD recorder so it will record from its input. (on my DVD recorder this is "IN2")

Put a blank DVD into the DVD recorder, start playing a show on the DVR, and hit record on the DVD recorder. When the show is finished, hit stop on the DVD recorder to stop recording. The advantage here is you can then play this DVD on any DVD drive. The disadvantage is DVD recorders only record in non-HD. You can still play a show in HD, but the recording you get won't be in HD. Also, the show has to record in real time. So if it's a 60 minute episode, it will take 60 minutes to record.

LITE ON HD-A740GX ONLY HAVE DIGITAL SIGNAL HOW DO I TUNE IN CAN I TUNE IN

You must connect a digital TV box between your arial and your Liteon, so the arial cable goes into the digital box, and use a SCART cable from the digital box to the Liteon. Then record using the SCART input on the Liteon. Another SCART cable can be connected from the Liteon to your TV, so you can view what you have recorded.

How do i install a new firmware (UPDATE) TO FIX PROBLEM THAT MY DVD RECORDER LVW-5045 DOES NOT READ BLANK DISCS, THE RECORDER HAS NO COMPUTER CONNECTIONS TO CONNECT IT TO MY COMPUTER

Reference: http://www.liteonit.com/global/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=25&Itemid=103&limit=1&limitstart=1

You could change brands of "blank" disks, until you find one that it can handle.

Or, you could disassemble the LiteOn device, remove the DVD-writer, connect it to a computer,
verify that it does read/write while connected.

If it is OK, then update the firmware, disconnect it from the computer, and reimplant the DVD-writer, and reassemble.

When I put a DVD-R into the DVD-R 155 recorder to copy a TV program after a few minutes of the blue disc at spinning at the top right of my TV screen the disc is ejected with the message 'disc cannot be...

This is a Samsung DVD recorder - I've had the exact same problem - By the way, don't you mean "this disc cannot be recorded" ? These DVD recorders are known to reject certain type of discs.

* Have you updated your Samsung with the latest firmware ?
http://www.samsung.com/ca/support/download/supportDown.do?group=&type=dvdplayers&subtype=recordable&model_nm=DVD-R155&disp_nm=DVD-R155&language=&cate_type=all&dType=D&mType=FM&vType=&prd_ia_cd=03010300&model_cd=&menu=download

Follow the instructions carefuly and please understand the risks involved in flashing your drive - Do not interrupt the process, it can take long.

* here are the brands of DVD-R I have used successfuly with this recorder int he past:

Taiyo Yuiden DVD-R 4x / 8x (the optical drives used in those recorders are outdated, their writing strategies are never up to date and may not recognize some type of discs)
Maxell DVD-R 4x / 8x
Verbatim DVD-R 4x / 8x

Try another blank disc - maybe it will accept it - if it keeps rejecting all your blank DVD-R no matter what brand, you have a bad drive inside your recorder - the samsung recorders are **** - I have ever since gotten rid of that piece of **** and now use a Sony HDR-780 HDD/DVD recorder, uses pioneer components and is great !

Avoid those lens cleaners - they can do more harm than good!

I hope this helps.

Try different brands of DVD-R, avoid the cheap generic **** - drives like best Taiyo Yuden & Verbatim media id codes - they should recognize Maxells, verbatims, sony, taiyo yuden, ritek. if it keeps spitting out all discs you use, you have a defective unit. The latest firmware on that drive should also help !

Good luck :)

Can't get reliable recording discs

There actually is a recommended list on Lite-on website but I have used bulk-paq, ridisk and phillips without problems until it stopped reading any alltogether. I recently cleaned it with a DVD cleaner disk and its working properly again. Also on the website is a download for updated firmware which may help in your case.

Won't read DVDs

Hi, Ive just repaired several liteon's ( incidently they are identical inside to some philips models ). In most cases the non writing or non reading problem is caused by dust on the laser glass. You have to open the unit then remove the dvd drive then remove its covers and just give a wipe of the laser with a clean non fluffy cloth. If theres lots of dust in other parts of the drive then this will need to be removed also as it could easily get onto the laser when in use. Even almost new liteons can suffer the problem , it only needs a little bit of dust to top the laser shining onto the dvd , instead the dust just reflects the light back. Hope this helps.

Can't read blank DVD for recording / can't transfer film from HD to dvd

I presume at this stage you have tried a different type of dvd disc and not just the one type and you are using the correct format dvdr for your machine. If you have tried all this it could be the laser, but make sure you try everthing else before replacing optic assy.
