It probably is .. The most common cause is something got stuck in the beaters and some gear teeth got damaged.. They are very easy to replace but can be a little messy because of the grease on the gears. If you tell me your make and model I will tell you what parts you probably need

Beaters are hitting each other and jamming up

One of the beaters had jumped a gear. I understand they are nylon gears. My wife's had the same trouble. I unplugged the mixer, removed the bowl and install the beaters if you can to see where they are touching. They were two cogs off. I grapped the left (red) beater firmly and twisted it to the left. It took a couple tries and turning on the motor (with out beaters) to find the spot where they had skipped. In the end the left beater jumped back one then two teeth and now the beaters aline properly.
This will happen again with heavy dough, etc. now that the teeth are worn in that spot. Use a bread machine for the heaver dough. IMHO

Mixer makes a clicking noise and beater stops turning or mixing...gear seems to be slipping...

The only part that consistently wears out is the Worm Gear Follower located inside the Transmission housing. The teeth are wearing out and becoming chipped. The clicking noises you hear are made by the Worm Gear banging on the Follower. All the teeth of the Follower are now damaged and the Planetary stops rotating.
Removal and replacing of the Worm Gear Follower is no easy task. Let me know if you need help.
(Do not try to remove the Planetary assembly by forcing it with a screwdriver. That is not how it's done.)

The mixer turn table won't turn? Its only a year old?

Don't know a solution, because I am having the same damn problem.
I am very discouraged with this product.
It is a piece of ****.
I am thinking about taking it out back and shooting it with my 270 I bought.
That is the only solution I know.

Kitchenaid mixer makes a lot of noise. The beater

Hi - I've been searching for general info on KitchenAid stand mixers and ran across this so I'm throwing my $.02 in... Since KA stand mixer bases are essentially made of cast metal parts, there is a very slim chance that there is a lateral misalignment (side-side) unless it got dropped...eek! Sounds like a head height adjustment issue. Check out this from KitchenAid Conversations:

Good luck.

Motor runs, beater stopped rotating. Some gear sounds heard before it stopped. Beater will not turn at any speed setting.

drive gear or shear pin stripped. Common on this model. Return to repair centre. Expect to pay approx $150.00 to repair, sorry.

I would check the bottom of the beater blades to see if they are out of shape.,or is the base of the mixer raised somehow to cause this problem

It sounds like you need to change the brushes. You can look up your parts manual online here and then buy them online. Should be under $10.
