DVP5992/37 No sound from multiple dvd's There is sound from cable channels

Your reply should not be the answer as everything was normal several hours ago. The problem developed when I was trying to fast forward to the middle of the DVD.

Also on restart there is a message to push < button, which allows picture to go backward, but still no sound.

When I try pushing varoius buttons, the pcture goes dark, but is restored on removing disk then starting over. Picture come up, but no sound.

Also a question, when you say contact servi center for upgrade, whose sevi center?

  • bltarmy Oct 02, 2009

I went into the Philips site to find the service center and the drop down menu did not have the DVP5992 listed!!! and there was no other way to get into their listing. Please give me a telphone number to call or a URL which will get me a contact.

    This is frustrating.

That usually means they are not compatible with the player.so the sound does not comes up.also if the usb wire is not detecting ceratain dvd's this happens.replace the usb wire and check out.many users are facing this problem of some dvd's not getting played in dvp 5992/37, but the same dvd is getting perfectly played in other normal dvd player.the usb device are having such problems.still you get it contact with the servi center and ask for latest firmware update disc.get it and load it in your player and then check out.many times the firmware does not support so new latest firmware helps. ------------ thanks.keep updated.

the service center you will have to contact is Philips service center.the unit which you were using is a Philips product.and yes if the firmware gets corrupted the system stops working completely or some of its function stops working.so mostly firm ware update can solve the problem.still the service center needs to be contacted.

Does this same problem exist if you're playing back a DVD?

If not, it sounds like a problem with your cable/satellite signal.

RF Modulators and cable connections

RF MODULATOR HOOKUP
For a TV with only a RF input jack, a RF Modulator can be used to hookup DVD players, DVD recorders and other devices which output RCA composite video and audio. For example, analog cable TV can be connected using a RG-6 type coaxial cable to a VCR or older DVD recorder's analog cable ready tuner RF input. Then as shown above, the output can be connected to the TV thru the RF modulator. The modulator outputs on channel 3 or 4 for the older TV so the TV is set to channel 3 or 4. Some RF modulators are built-in to Audio/Video switch boxes. These allow multiple RCA inputs along with RF input.

RF MODULATOR CLOSE-UP
The modulator converts signals to channel 3 or 4 so older TVs can tune them on their analog tuners channel 3 or 4.

DVD player and receiver will not play a dvd in surround sound ?

The dvd player is responsible for reading the surround sound track, and sending it to the receiver. First make sure you are playing the surround sound track on the dvd, many have a stereo track too. Next, try another dvd and see if you can play surround sound on that one. If you can't play surround on ANY dvd I would start looking at the audio connection from dvd to receiver. Are you using an optical cable? Red, white, and yellow RCA cables? Optical will transmit any sound over only one cable, RCA cables need one cable for each channel (LF, C, RF, LR, RR, sub.) If your connections are correct, is the receiver set to play a surround sound track? Is it set in 2 channel mode?

Hi Rachael, I dont know anything about your DVD player itself but from what you have said assuming you have a stereo TV and you can only hear music etc from both channels in a movie then you MIGHT have it set for 5.1??, which means instead of everything coming out of the L+R the VOICES and music etc are being sent to the CENTRE CHANNEL and the other channels.

As I dont know that model, all I can say is try menu or options etc and go to audio and change the output for stereo. (You said you tried AUDIO but I am assuming you mean the audio button on the remote which changes between the audio versions on the DVD Disc.)

or maybe try checking the cables, what ones are you using? Scart? Composite? maybe the audio cables have been plugged into the wrong sockets on the DVD player if it has multiple outputs on it?

I dont know what else to say... But the above 2 options are worth trying. I hope you get it sorted OK :) Bye.

I have sound but no picture

The TV could be on the wrong channel.
Make sure the video cable is going from the OUT of the DVD player to the IN of the TV.
Try multiple discs to see if same result.

Trying to hookup dvd

Steps to hook up DVD player:

1. Plug in DVD player
2. Plug in VIDEO cable to back of DVD player
There are multiple video out cable options: HDMI, VGA, RCA
If you aren't sure, use RCA (red, white, yellow tri-plug cable) and plug yellow into VIDEO OUT port.
3. Plug other end of video cable into TV's VIDEO IN port.
4. Turn on TV to the INPUT channel that corresponds with the input port you plugged the video cable into. Usually, this is either VIDEO1, VIDEO2, INPUT1, INPUT2, or channel 3.

This recorder only records inline. This means that there is no channel on recorder. It records whatever your satellite or cable box is showing. You'll have to change the channel on that.

I don't know that this will work for timed recording. You'll have to make sure that your cable/satellite is on and set to the proper channel before you leave. This wont work if you're recording multiple shows on different channels while you're gone. In that case you may need a different recorder.
