Lots of places on the 'net promote themselves as having replacement parts, but it would seem your search should start with:
http://www.adventspares.co.uk/
Prices aren't too bad, and depending on your location shipping time is minimal.

Just a question- Is the unit still under warranty? From your reply it would seem that Advent may have recognized this particular issue and may have a repair/replacement solution in place. Of course, sometimes I believe there actually IS a Santa Claus too... =)

Replacing cracked laptop screen

The side rails are the hinges, in some cases you most remove or loosen the screws that attach the hinges at the bottom where the hinges attach to the lid. Once this is accomplished, the hinge supports will allow access to the sides of the screen in order to remove the lcd panel. Once the panel is released from its side attachments, the data cable can be pulled free from the back of the panel.

I have a broken hinge on an Advent 4211 laptop, but cant find a replacement...Can you please help me..? Thanks Phil

Not knowing where you live, I'm not sure where to point you. But try this link online: http://www.ipc-computer.eu/?gclid=CKrVs7WcxJkCFQ9JagodhFQ3vA

If that doesn't pan out, browse this page and see if another supplier doesn't turn up...http://www.google.com/search?q=Advent+4211+laptop+parts&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Hinges are a tough thing to come by, I'm afraid.
You might check your local repair shops and see if they'd be willing to let you trade up to another laptop.. They could move everything over for you and you'd have the added rush of a newer machine.
Or you could apply the Red & Green approach, crude and ugly but effective: Duct tape or strapping tape.... (I'm just kidding)
I think the web is your best resource, but you may have to buy the whole case...unless you can get a line on the manufacturer for Advent and see if they have spare parts.
I hope this helps.

Gateway 200arc broken hinges

Solution #1 is not accurate. You can find a good number of replacement hinges on Ebay for around $40. The repair is not difficult and can be done yourself :)

Hinge problem

There out it is nothing like a broken hinge only repair solution, the only way to get it repaired is to buy a new replacement shell and replace the broken parts or the whole shell, but some cheap shells wont last and will broke again so read reviews. And if you are not too skilled be careful when replacing or you can get your DS more damaged.

The best is to find a good case broken DS, like water damage etc. to get only the original plastic parts. I should love to have to buy only the broken parts needed but you have to buy the whole thing.

Nintendo ds - broken hinges

Try gripping them with a pair of long nose pliers and pulling them out. I'd advise a layer of cloth between plier teeth and rods, to stop them being gouged.

there are plastic covers over the hinges, which may be part of the faceplate. being a compaq the hinge screws are most likely torx head screws. compaq used to make a special tool for removing the plastic covers on their laptops. the tool was a bar with a piece of fiberglas circuit board embedded in it. you insert the circuit board into the groove between the top and bottom covers and twist. this is, of course after removing all of the cover screws. some of the cover screws on the display may be hidden under rubber bumpers.
