Question about Whirlpool Dishwashers

1 Answer

My Whirlpool Gold dishwasher "shuts down" after the first 2-10 minutes, leaving the Sensing light and the Water Heating light showing. Any suggestions? Also, the horseshoe-shaped metal coil at the bottom of the dishwasher is burnt-colored. When I touch it, it looks like black soot has fallen off of it. Thank you ahead of time for your assistance!

As you mentioned the coil is burned that can also be the problem.it has to be replaced.but also other possibility is faulty shut-off valve in the dishwasher makes the unit shut -off after certain period of time. ---------------- so check the shut-off valve also . Turn off the water supply to the dishwasher. The shut off valve is usually under the kitchen sink or in the basement or crawlspace near the location of the dishwasher.also check the water inlet valve :------ if its faulty it needs replacement. Remove the dishwasher's kickplates. The kickplates are usually secured with two to four screws at the upper and lower corners. Locate the water inlet valve, usually near the front of the dishwasher. You'll see two terminals on the valve with wires attached to them, a water supply line (usually copper tubing) from the house, and a rubber or plastic water feed tube going to the dishwasher.

1 Disconnect the water supply line from the valve by removing the brass compression nut holding it in place.

2 The water supply line is connected to a brass fitting on the valve, usually a 90 degree elbow fittting. Remove this fitting. If you can't get it out of the valve, go to the hardware store and buy another one for $0.78.

3 Remove the screws holding the valve to the dishwasher frame.

4. Remove the wires from the valve by grasping the metal terminal with needle nose pliers and pulling, working it back and forth if you need to. Do not pull on the wires themselves because you could detach them from the terminals.

5. Remove the water feed tube from the valve. You'll see a small hose clamp that you'll remove with a pair of pliers.

6. Reinstall the old brass fitting for the water supply line onto the new valve. Use Teflon tape around the threads to make a water-tight connection.

7. Ok, now just install the new valve in the reverse order of the way you removed it.

8. Turn on the dishwasher water supply and check for leaks.

9. Reinstall the kickplates, turn on the power, and run the dishwasher. ---- you can get the required parts from.www.repairclinic.com ------------ thanks.this will help.please do rate the solution.thank you for using fixya.keep updated.

A dishwasher whirlpool model ADP5446 . Eternal water but not running

It's possible that the sensors are not sensing the water temp.. It won't run if the water temp is not hot.. It has built in water heating so the element might not be heating up the water to the correct temp to opperate..

I have a Whirlpool Gold Quiet Series Plus, Model GU940SCGT3, not working. It ran a cycle, cleaned the dishes, but the water didn't drain and the "CLEAN" light is stuck on. It is now...

Hi

If clean light is blinking then it may be an issue with heater circuit, door switch or wash pump, please reset the power to the dishwasher. After, 5 minutes check if you are still getting the same error. If yes, then it is a water heating fault. To resolve this error try pressing this reset sequence-- Heat Dry - Normal - Heat Dry - Normal or High Temp - Air Dry - High Temp - Air Dry or Hi Temp Scrub, energy saver dry, Hi Temp Scrub, energy saver dry or High Temp Wash-Heated Dry-High Temp Wash-Heated Dry. Now let the unit run for 2-3 minutes and then you press the Cancel/Drain button and allow it to completely drain and reset. If this doesn't work then it's an issue with the wash pump not pumping the water past the heater efficiently or due to lack of water to heat. Please make sure that heater is not open circuited and is heating the water efficiently. You'll have to check the heater using a multimeter; the meter should read between 3000 to 3300 ohms (Use multimeter on Rx1 ohm setting). If heater is fine then make sure water pressure is optimum and fill valve is working fine. Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

I have a whirlpool DU1145 dishwasher that seems to be stuck on the same cycle. It shows it as sensing and washing at the same time and never shuts off. HELP! WHat could becausing this??

Sounds like your Touch Pad on the Control Panel is defective.

You can try and remove the 120 Volt AC power from the Dishwasher by turning it off at your Main Electrical Power Panel with the Circuit Breaker (15 or 20 amp) labeled: Dishwasher .

Leave the Dishwasher turned "Off" for 10 minutes. This will allow the control circuits on the Dishwasher to reset. Turn on the Dishwasher and press Cancel and attempt to Drain the Dishwasher. If this works...then try to enter a Rinse Only cycle and if that works... then attempt to enter a Wash Cycle.

If you still have your original problems then you probably have a defective:
(1) Touch Pad Assembly (or possibly a defective)
(2) Electronic Control Module (ECM)

Whirlpool gold dishwasher is leaving a white milky film on the dishes. My old maytag cleaned fine, so water temp and pressure is not an issue.

Water is the issue.
Replace the water supply valve under the sink and water supply line to dishwasher.
Over time as you can see minerals deposit in the valve and restrict the water flow to the dishwasher.
This is especially inportant on todays water saving units.
Many people replace an old dishwasher and hate the new unit due to a white film left on dishes.

Although you may have paid for a professional installation a new shut off valve is almost never replaced even though the waterline may have been at an additional cost to you..

Whirlpool gold dishwasher will not work the clean light flashing 7 times what does that mean?

When the dishwasher doesn't sense a water temperature increase, it stops working and locks the functions (clean light flashes 7 times, all buttons are non responsive). It does this as a safety in case the element is broken and feeding electrical current into the water.

To resolve this you will have to reset the console. Do this by closing the door and press these buttons in sequence...

-high temp wash
-heated dry
-high temp wash
-heated dry

...all the lights will turn on briefly and the machine will start a diagnostic cycle. You can press cancel or let the diagnostic cyle finish (1-2 minutes).
You should now be able to run the dishwasher as normal.

If the issue returns, you could have a problem with the heating circuit (ie. element, thermostat or wiring).
It rarely happens but it could also be the door switch not engaging properly when the door is closed (slightly bend the door latch down making sure it doesn't hit the door when you close it).

Good luck!

Won't full cycle.

Ok. Mine has started working again somewhat. I ran a rinse cycle and the pump motor started working again. I then drained it, and started a regular cycle and it's working again for now. The motor still does not sound right though.

"clean" light is blinking

Check the following:
1. Is the overfill protection float able to move up and down
freely? Press down to release.
2. Be sure the water supply is turned on to the dishwasher.

3. Check for suds in the dishwasher. If foam or suds are
detected by the dishwasher sensing system, the
dishwasher may not operate properly or may not fill with
water.
Suds can come from:
1. Using the incorrect type of detergent, such as
laundry detergent, hand soap, or dish detergent for
hand washing dishes.
2. Forgetting to replace the rinse aid dispenser cap
after filling (or refilling) the rinse aid, or spilling rinse aid into the tub (rinse aid causes suds to occur).
3. Using an excessive amount of dishwasher detergent.

Extremely long cycle

The drying coil that is broken also heats the water during the wash and rinsing phase. Right now it is waiting for the water to heat up, that's why it's pausing. Replace broken heater, they are relatively cheap and can be gotten at repair clinic.com.

Whirlpool gold dishwasher gets stuck at 53 minutes left for an hour

Try "resetting" the control board by running the diagnostic cycle. The cycle completes in 15 minutes.
The details are in the service manual. The manual can be found hidden behind the tow plate (at the very bottom front of the washer).
The diagnostic cycle may tell you the problem. It also helps clear up some of the software gltiches.
It is easy to run the diagnostic cycle.
Just the buttons in the following sequence. The sequence should be complete within 6 sec.
heated dry -> Normal -> heated dry -> Normal
This will trigger diagnostic cycle of 19 intervals. Pay special attention to the intervals 18, 17, 9, 6, 4.
Interval 18 - displays your controller module number (should be letter 'd' followed by number 0 or 1 or 2 or something. Note that down for future reference.
Interval 17 displays 'software generation number' Note that down for future reference.
Then wait until you reach interval 9.  --- clean LED turns on - then an open or shorted thermister is detected.
-- Sanitized LED turns on - then the washer detected greater than 100 deg F temperature
Interval 7
-- Soaking/sensing LED should NOT come on (unless food soil is present).
Interval 4 -- Soaking/sensing LED should come on

Let the cycle complete and then try running the normal wash. Hopefully the possible glitches are cleared by now and you should have no problem.
If this doesn't work, time to call the expert tech.
