Question about HP OfficeJet G55 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

It started leaking black ink so I dismantled it to try to find the cause - unsuccessfully though. So I washed the panels I had removed then held the chassis under a warm kitchen tap. Eventually the water cleared and after a period of natural drying I reassembled the printer and powered it up. It works! Is there an overflow reservoir for the nozzle cleaning process in there or what? Michael G

So far the overspill opf black ink seems to have stopped. Do do this I dismantled the Hewlett Packard G55 by taking off the end panels, the back locking panel and the back. I then removed and unplugged the scanner top. There are only about four identical cross-head screws and two 1/2" springs belonging to the lift mechanism for accessing the print-ink carriage. I found that warm water got rid of the encrusted and gooey ink deposits from the panels and so, gritting my teeth, I adventurously and foolhardily held the printer chassis under the running kitchen tap. A vast amount of black ink came flooding out which gradually lightened to clear water. Then I dried the panels and the worst of the chassis wetness and allowed the lot to dry properly in the sunshine. Reassembled the whole unit, powered up and it is still working. Though whether the ink overflow will return remains to be seen. MichaelGUK

When I power up the BJC-85, the printer cycles through the start up process and then beeps three times and places the carriage in the replace cartridge position. I have changed cartridges and ink tanks...

The 3 beep error is a prompt that no print head is installed. The error is occurring because the printer no longer recognizes that a print head is installed. Normally , this is due to a defective print head. If you have replaced the print head with ONE YOU ARE CERTAIN IS GOOD, then the problem is in the printer. Try taking a cue tip soaked in isoprophyl ( rubbing) alcohol and cleaning the contact strip where the print head installs. The part in the printer. The area will feel flexible but you can clean it safely. Let the alcohol dry and try the print head again. If you still have the error, the only solution is a full service that involves replacing a major part of the print mechanism.

The black ink wont work, even though i have put in a brand new cartridge. the tri color works fine, but the black ink must have something funky going on

Try the following things:
  1. remove the cartridge make sure that you have removed any tape or guards that came with the cartridge to keep the ink from leaking
  2. try gently squeezing the cartridge. if you can get a drop to come out of the cartridge.
  3. if you cannot get a drop out, put the head of the cartridge on a piece of a dampened napkin or paper towel. You should see some black bleeding out of the head. Sometimes, it can take awhile for the ink to loosen up.
  4. reinstall the cartridge and run the head cleaning program for your printer if you have one

Ink spillage from HP G55 - is there a reservoir in there?

The ink could of come from a cartridge that was stuck open or the printer held the cartridge open. Of it was the cartridge itself once you changed it that problem was fixed. If it was the printer it may or may not happen again. It could be just a fluke thing and never happen again. The main problem in trying to repair is if it is not doing it at the time you are trying to repair you'll never find it. As they say if it's not broke don't fix it. Unfornatly that applies here. Sorry!

Black ink spot on printed page

Does this ink spot persist if you change the black cartridge for a new one? If not, it's just a faulty cartridge seal. If it persists, you must have a leak from the print-head somewhere - this would probably require you to dismantle the printer to locate it. For example, the waste ink pipe may be blocked and the head is just swimming in black ink (the one you use the most).

Please report back if you need further help on this.

I want to install ink cartidges and do not know where to begin. I have misplaced my instructions

To install your Brother machine#s ink cartridges, follow the steps
listed below:

1. Make sure that the Brother machine#s power is turned on.

2. Open the ink cartridge cover. This cover is located on right-hand
side of the Brother machine#s front panel.

3. Pull down the four lock release levers. There is one lock release
lever for each ink cartridge.

4. Take the ink cartridge out of its protective bag.

5. Carefully remove the yellow protective cap from the ink cartridge.

- DO NOT touch the side of the ink cartridge covered by the yellow
protective cap.

- Take care when removing this cover to prevent spilling ink and
staining your hands and clothing.

- If the cartridge cover comes off when you open the bag, the cartridge
will NOT be damaged.

6. Install each ink cartridge in the direction of the arrow on the

- Please note that each color has its own specific position. These
positions are indicated by the colors of the four lock release levers.
Do not install an ink cartridge in the incorrect position, as this can
cause print quality problems.

7. Lift each lock release lever and push it until it clicks into the
closed position.

8. Close the ink cartridge cover.

- If the LCD shows #Install Black,# #Install Cyan,# #Install Magenta,#
or #Install Yellow# after you install the ink cartridges, please verify
that you have installed the cartridges correctly.

* DO NOT remove the ink cartridges from the Brother machine unless you intend to replace them. If you do, it may reduce the quantity of ink left in the cartridge, which may cause the Brother machine to miscalculate the amount of remaining ink.

* DO NOT shake the ink cartridges. If ink stains your skin or clothing, wash the affected area with soap or detergent immediately.

* DO NOT repeatedly insert and remove the ink cartridges. Doing so may cause ink to seep out of your cartridges.

* If you mix the colors by installing an ink cartridge in the wrong
position, clean the print head several times after correcting the
cartridge installation.

* Once you open an ink cartridge, install it in the Brother machine and use it up within six months of installation.

* Use unopened ink cartridges by the expiration date listed on the
cartridge package.

* DO NOT dismantle or tamper with the ink cartridge. Doing so can cause ink to leak out of the cartridge

My hP deskjet F4288 shows ERROR symbol

I would remove the refill. HP voids the warranty if the cartridge leaks. I have seen refills leak and destroy the printer. Replace with a brand new cartridge. If that is not the solution you want. You can remove the cartridge and clean it with rubbing alchohol and a paper towel or a q-tip, just make sure there is no fuzz left when your done. Also if you have the HP software installed on your computer, there is usually a cleaning program built into the software.

Whirlpool ultimate care II washer leaks

Sounds like the pump is leaking.

Access to inside washer:

This one you remove the whole outside case and not the back.

Remove two screws on each side of the back control panel, you may have to remove the plastic trim on each end of the panel. The control panel flips back so you can remove two brass clips, unplug the wireing in the back center. The whole outside case can be removed.

The pump is in front and held on by two clips.

Thanks for getting back to me.
Sorry this ain't a solution but it seems to be the only cash-free way to contact you. No problem not solved - though I have tried everything. Dismantled the printer; washed, dried and replaced the waste ink pads; washed the print head; blew compressed air through the print-head sponge; replaced the cartridge 3 times; printed hundreds of test prints. I can't think of anything else to do and so I think the only solution is to replace the printhead (probably not even available) or replace the printer. The latter is looking most likely.
