If Canon does not provide a drive for Vista, then you cannot use the scanner with your Vista system.
I had the same problem with certain hardware when I upgraded from Win98SE to XP Pro 64 bit. I set up my computer for dual booting so that I can run both Win98SE and XP Pro.
Eventually I purchased compatible hardware however.
