o.k-- .I understand about clearing out clumped soap, but what is involved with loading dishwasher correctly? I have had the dishwasher for a couple of years. It never did this before.
What can prevent water from getting to soap?

I understand about cleaning out clumped soap, but don't know what is involved in "loading dishwasher correctly."
I have had the dishwasher for at least a couple of years and it didn't do this.
What could prevent water from getting to soap?

If the dispenser cup is open when the dishwasher stops running (but still has clumped soap in it) can the problem still be with the cup? How can I tell where the water comes from so as not to obstruct it with loading? I have had this dishwasher for a couple of years and my loading style has never caused problems before. However, I am open to loading instructions. Where can I get them?

I am using a GE dishwasher, a small size as i live in an apartment. I will have to look up the manual later in the day. If I still have trouble, can I get back to you?

Thank you. Will have to look up manual and get back to you later in the day.

It might be due to drain trap will have some kind of block
Clean out the dishwasher's drain trap. All kinds of food and debris can accumulate there, as well as clumps of undissolved dishwasher soap. Your dishwasher's owner's manual will contain instructions to clean it.

which company and model you are using?

Hope this helps
Thank you

Make sure that you are loading the dishwasher correctly. Water not getting to dispenser. Clean dispenser hinge and make sure it's not obstructed with clumped detergent.

Possible loading..?? This is just a suggestion. There are other possibilities, possible solenoid failure for the dispenser cup. I am trying to eliminate possible causes. I have to start somewhere.

Before taking anything to bits, check you aren't just loading the machine in such a way that something (for us, it's usually a frying pan) is stopping the soap dispenser from springing open all the way. A.

SOURCE: Dishwasher problem

I too have had this problem>It would only occur in times of no hot water, or delayed hot water operation. If your hot water heater is a long way from the washer this can happen<eventhough it doesnt seem to happen consistantly>the solution would be to try to run the hot water in the sink nearest to the washer until it gets hot, then start the dishwasher. The soap despenser is one of the first steps in the proccess, and if the hot water had not been run in a while it could take up to 3 minutes to reach adequate temp>good luck hope this helps

I ran a load through it sounded like the water went through, but the soap was clumped up at the bottom of the washer

sometimes the soap dispenser latch gets hung up if there is too much soap in it, I recommend using the premeasured cubes. The second thing that may cause this is a
failed fill valve, but you have already mentioned that it was filling. It is very unusual
for the soap dispenser to fail but it does occasionally happen and it must be replaced
as a unit if this is the case. Hope this helps.

The dishwasher does not drain and the soap door opens but we are left with just a big clump of wet soap in the cup.

If the DW does not drain the pump could be clogged or has failed. That would also cause the spray arms not to rotate and not circulate water to dissolve the soap or clean the dishes

Soap Not Mixing

Inside the soap holder there is a small spring and sometimes that comes under causing it not to open during the wash. If that is fine and you are using liquid soap try pulling a cople glasses of hot water on the latch and give it good clean because it soemtimes gets jammed up. Anymore questions give me a shout.
