Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

We have a GE Profile Artica side by side stainless refridgerator and for the past few weeks it has left a big puddle on the floor every three or four days. The puddles were more frequesnt when we had the ice machine on but it has been off but we still puddles. What can we do to fix it?

It soundslike you have a clogged defrost drain,
you can remove the back wall and clean all the ice out
pour hot water down the drain till it clears

Temperature in refrigerator will not stay set. It keeps getting colder. I have a GE Artica model PSS27SGMD. It is a side by side with ice through the door. It is +- 9 years old

GE Artica had problems with the "Motherboards" originally installed. They have since switched manufacturers so my educated guess that is the problem.

OK, it sounds like you have a defrost problem. When left unplugged for a few days the frost melted off the evaporator (the cooling coils behind the freezer wall) but after you ran it again, the coils blocked the air flow again, usually happens after a week or so, depending on # of door openings, humidity in home, etc. Most likely you have a burnt out defrost heater.

GE Side by side runs constantly.

The timer that controls the defrost cycle/function, may have failed and there may be no defrosting occurring. If icing of the coils due to the missing defrost cycle, there may not be enugh circulation left to keep the thermostat happy.

Try defrosting it manually (I know, it's a pain - aren't we spoiled?) and see if the compressor then cycles for a few days before it starts running continuously again.

And for Dr. Fred, the above suggestion about trying manually defrosting applies to your problem too.
The exposure to overnight moisture (ice accumulation) may have interfered with the automatic cycle.
