Question about RCA D52W20 52" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

D52W20 won't turn on.

Green Light on power switch comes on for ~10 secs and turns off. Visually checked cp150, cp114 and cp120. All look okay. None are popped, bloated or leaking. Checked VDC on dp110 during power up. Voltage steady at 145 until TV turns off, then to 0 Volts. I used the anode of dp135 as return due to a lack of obvious marked dc grounds. Scanned deflection board and other pcb's for obvious signs and symptoms, but all components look good. My understanding is that the flyback xfmr, horiz osc and horiz out xfmr are good if dp110 voltage is 110/128 vdc. Is the 145 vdc good or does it point to another circuit?

Do you get the high voltage coming up? You can check for this by measuring if there's any voltage at DL231 or/and DL221 (diodes off secondary of flyback). If there is voltage momentarily then the hv is trying to come on and the Flyback is likely at fault (excessive highvoltage detected) if not then usually power supply problem is indicated - Start there - tip-use the tuner shield as ground/return

52"rca hdtv lights blink will not turn on

Thats the classic sign of the CP150, CP120 and CP114 capacitors having failed. By trying to power it up over and over the caps will eventually charge and the set will function untill you power it down. You can get the CP150, CP120 and the CP114 repair kit at and the kit contains the CD with repair instructions.

Television will not turn on

ON the Deflection board look at cp150 (2200uf 16v)- if it is puffed up on top it is bad replace it and 2 more cp114 & cp120- 220uf 35v. Radio Shack should have capacitors. they are green with gold writing on them.
