Question about Canon PIXMA® MP530 All-In-One Printer

Thick black line of ink down the back of the page

I keep getting a 5100 error, and a thick black line of ink down the back of the page. I have tried turning off and on and taking out all the ink cartridges and replacing them and still am seeing the problem. Please let me know how to fix this/if it is fixable.

I ended up running all the possible options under maintenance and got the black streak to go away. The problem is all the Canon techs are at least an hour drive away, plus they want to hold the printer in the shop for a few days and then I have to go back and get the printer. So having a Canon tech repair this means being without the printer for a week, plus spending at least 5 hours driving to deal with it. Wish there was some way to fix it myself if it happens again. Any idea what this sort of repair might cost if I decide to do it?

It is fixable, what happens is the ink from the cleaning assembly is pumped over to the pads in the middle of the printer. The ink dries under the hose and comes up onto the exit rollers from underneath. Canon techs. will replace the ink absorbers, clean up the extra ink and install a mylar shield so it can't happen again. A repair best done in the shop...

In our shop, I charge $69.00 for the labor and $19.95 for the absorbers. It will happen again until you have that mylar shield installed in the underside. If you don't need the absorbers, just $69.00 for the cleaning.

The printer shows error code 5100 I think it has

Hi You can Try 2 things.

ERROR 5100 means that there is some foreign object blocking your cartridges carriage that disables it from moving. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there

Next try.

It may be a piece of paper or a scotch tape or a staple wire.
Solution 1:
Clean the timing strip.

Solution 2:
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .

Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.

Good Luck.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

I am trying to print from the monitor screen to the PIXMA MP470 printer. The error response is 5100. The black and color lights at the bottom of the screen flash alternately from one to the other.

Start by turning the printer off and back on. Also, try turning it off by the wall or unplug it.

Then also try another USB port, if the same error keeps coming, try reseating the ink cartridges inside the printer, take them out, let the machine be witout cartridges and turn it off, back on, reinsert the cartridges and see if it clears the error.

Also make sure that the cartridge carrier is not stuck or blocked inside.

What is error code 5100

Hi lyhodol
Solution 1:
Look inside for a tiny object like a piece of paper, a staple...

Solution 2:
There is a thin plastic strip running across the width in front of and below the drive belt: there are fine black vertical lines on this strip. If the strip gets a piece of crud on it, you get an error during the start-up sequence.
Gently clean this strip with a damp lint-free tissue
Hope this Helps : Pineworks

I keep getting an error code 5100.

By your description, you probably have read that the 5100 error means that the movement of the print head holder is blocked. I get this error occasionally and handle it by turning the printer off and then on. The last time it happened, I heard something like a belt snap. Try opening the printer top and seeing if you can gently move the holder. Are you hearing sounds from the printer that are new?

Canon PIXMA MP450 "Servic Error 5100"

Try this... it worked on my MP450... Turn the printer on and open the lid, it shows the cartridges. Now let the cartridges settle to the left. You can notice that the cartridges run on a metal belt. It might be dirty, mine showed a black stripe on it. Take a cloth, a cleenex will be fine and clean it up. Move the cartridges to the right (force them with your hand) and clean the part of the belt left behind them. Now turn it off, close it up and turn it back on. It should work
