SOURCE: Proton model 300 AM/FM stereo tuner

IF nothing lights up and you are sure that the power outlet is working correctly (some power outlets are wired to be switched on and off by a wall switch so be sure that the power source is NOT the problem) then you may be busted. Check for fuses; I dont know this specific unit, but most power amps have some sort of inline fuse. If that doesnt get it, I would call PROTON and have them send you a new one.

Perhaps if you had bothered to tell us year, make, model we could have looked at the wiring diagrams to see if there's a common circuit.

My 2007 chrysler 300 radio makes a popping noise a d then sound stops after a while turn radio back on and sound is working

the speakers maybe blown out, there mite be a short in the system, the antenna maybe loose or have short in the connector, there a short in an electronic component in the radio, it also could be a grounding issue, when you hit a bump it looses it connection or the unit has short in the receiver and it cuts out the signal in the radio station, losing power some where, if i was you go to stereo shop or buy new radio, all the money you would spend looking or trying to repair would cost you a lot of money, troubleshooting, radio, speakers, wiring, shop supples, no warranty after wards,
good luck

Lexus radio sound crackles then cuts out altogether

in radio mode, A./m and F/m
and what about other modes. Cassette, CDDA disc? all crackle
if only radio, then connect a test antenna to the radio
if not the radio is bad, or DC power to the radio is bad.

cuts out, does that mean, just the sound dies in all modes. (left and right speakers)
or the sound and even the dial lights and station tune data is dead too.

cuts means nothing with out specifics.

UNPLUG the radio. Once you have gotten to the volume control spray contact cleaner, available at most radio shack or other electronic stores, into the switch. WD40 will also work. Clean up any excess liquid before plugging radio back in

I have a Proton car but I have never heard of a Proton radio.

As a matter of general interest, the flywheel tuning system was used on early radios before the superheterodyne system brought us agc lines and such sophistications. Selecting another station was a noisy business and flywheel tuning allowed the dial to be traversed quickly with a flick of the wrist. Those flywheels were heavy and mounted in ball bearings...

The trouble with trying to obtain spare parts for radios is mostly you can't. The manufacturer uses mostly bought-in standard electronic and hardware components and makes as little as possible, apart from the cabinet, the circuit boards and a few other bits and pieces and then will assemble what is generally regarded as a consumable item. The manufacturer's interest fades quickly when the warranty expires. Whatever (few) parts remain will be priced not to sell in order to build in obsolescence.
It is mostly expected that minor repairs will be handled by local repairers using standard parts until it becomes uneconomic or obsolete.

It might be possible to locate another plastic "flywheel" but searching would be a mammoth task. The number might not be a part number, might have been made by anyone and Proton is such a popular brand, model, type a search would not be easy.
The best alternative is to repair the original, adapt something else to do the same job or have a replacement made or devise another method of doing the same job.

Good Luck!

The FM tuner picks up only a few stations and those are very faint. Two other Proton model 320 radios work fine in the same area. I live on Long Island where the reception is rather strong.

The tuning module within the radio is getween the base circuit card and the display. A shot of tuner cleaner into one of the ports will usually bring back the FM performace (I just got done diong my own). Also, it goes without saying that you need to make sure your radio still has its antenna wire and that the vacuum didn't eat it. If this is beyond your skill level, find a computer geek (there are few radio geeks any more). Commercial repair would cost more than the value of the radio.

First off, change the front speakers with a decent pair of aftermarket. Buy a powered subwoofer. One that has the amp built in. Connect it to the rear speakers. Bazooka tubes are great, compact, great bass.Adjust your radio so that the front speakers do not recieve alot of bass, you want it about half way. That way you are using all the power to push high notes, Bass takes a lot of power to push, reducing the volume. Turn the subwoofer to the maximum setting, and then adjust the system to your liking. It will take some time, but it is worth it in the end. Tip: set it while listening to your favorite station. Stations broadcast at different sound levels. Some pump up the bass, some don't.

Air conditioning condensation and speakers

Check for audio from the radio. Hook up some test speakers and make sure the radio is working. If not then your last stage audio amplifier might be defective. also test you after-market amp by injecting audio into in and see if it is still functioning. If the radio is not working and the after-market amp is then the radio is the problem and its internal amplifier will have to be replaced. If the radio works and the after-market amp does not then the after-market amp will have to be repaired. I would suggest getting this testing done by a professional auto-sound shop, to make sure the proper testing is done.

I hope this helps,
