The inbuilt microphone in my compaq laptop c700 is not working. My operating system is windows Xp.

go to your device manager and try reinstalling the driver for it---also check your audio drivers, I've had situations where I had an optical mouse that was also a skype phone, it also had a mic and speaker in it, so when I was using that mouse, my internal speakers wouldn't work because ,y computer confused my mouse phone with speakers. What I mean is there may be another device interfering with your mic.

On the back of your computer you should have a couple of round audio sockets or jacks
One is black for a headset and the red one is for a mic
After plugging in - make your webcam mic the default mic.

TEST SPEAKERS
Right click on speaker icon in System Tray or from Control Panel
Select "Playback Devices"
The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible
Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

SET DEFAULT & TEST MIC
Click "Recording" tab.
To set required (webcam) mic as default - click on mic font to highlight and click "Properties"
In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click 'OK'
Click "Levels" tab and ramp up sliders ( adjust to suit later)

Where is the microphone situated? Have just downloaded skype. The speakers are working but not the microphone.

If you mean in the monitor, they do not usually have a microphone, if you mean on a laptop, it is usually a small hole on the top of the laptop, or the Red Jack on it, and desktop, PC's don't have any, and must be added, via, USB or red, Phono jack

I have a Logitech C500 webvcam. I cannot get the software to completely load from the cd. It is brand new! I can get the video, but cannot get the mic on the cam to work!

Launch the Logitech toolbar by double clicking the shortcut icon on your desktop
Open the settings menu by clicking the 2 gear wheel picture
Open audio menu and check all settings.
Close toolbar

TEST SPEAKERS
Right click on speaker icon in System Tray
Select "Playback Devices"
The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible

Restart computer and configure to your chat program

If the software is suspect, download from the logitech webside

Identify your cam from the picture gallery and click on it to navigate to the support page for your model

No sound conning out of speakers from wharfdale mixer

Speakers are working OK otherwise?
Do you get sound from headphone jack?
It's probably some pot control not turned up.
Is MAIN OUT turned up
Are speakers connected to monitor out or main out.?
Is gain for mic turned up?
Is there a MAIN OUT switch (on/off)?
Is there a MUTE control on the board?

Line in / Mic jack help

So we're talking PC here, right?

I don't understand what you want to record. Going from the PC Headphone jack to the PC Line IN might be unwise in order to prevent a feedback loop. External (non-PC) source and PC MIC might work but you would probably want to monitor it on headphones again because of possibe feedback.

Does your MIC work?

Right click the speaker icon again and select Adjust Audio Properties or open Control Panel and select Sounds & Audio Devices. Select the box to place the icon on the Taskbar for future use.

Right click on the little speaker icon in your Taskbar and select Open Volume Control, if it's there. From there you're on your own. I have a sound card so I don't know what you will see. Look around, there may be a bunch of audio outputs and inputs with Master and individual volume & balance controls plus one for your Mic. Make sure it's not muted.

Monitor INBUILT SPEAKER not working

The audio cable should be from your computer's Audio Out (Green) Jack to the Monitor's Audio In jack next to the AC connection.
