Did you remove the drive and reseat it back in the laptop, If that don't work You may have a virus and should run your antivirus software and antispy software. I have also seen where a cd gets stuck in the drive and you can't see it, it goes above the drive and gets stuck in there, Check that out. Let me know if that helps you out at all.

Bad hard drive

First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

My CD/DVD drive won't read/play DVDs and it won't write DVDs either. It used to do this fine, but it doesn't anymore. It will still play and write CDs, but not DVDs. I have tried EVERYTHING to...

You probably will need to replace the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) in your laptop. Go to Google and search for "Dell Inspirion 6000 CD/DVD drive" to find a replacement.
To be sure it's the CD/DVD drive that's defective and not your operating system software, you could also try to boot from a boot-able DVD disk.

Inspiron 1520 error code 0f00:137B or dvdrw_4

Hi,

this is either a faulty dvd drive error message, or you have missing system files on the hard-drive.
The computer is asking you for the ( Media-Software Disk ) that is missing, and is required to start the computer.
Try putting your restore cd, or operating system in the dvd drive when booting the computer.

Acer aspire 2930 DVD player only opens some dvds

Try Media player classic under k-lite codec pack. Then open video files on the dvd. If it doesn't help try another codec player. If nothing helps could it be that dvd player is not capable of multilayer dvd reading.

go into device manager and see if your drive is listed or has an exclamation point beside it.if you dont know how to open device manger go to start menu and click help and search device manager.if there is an exclamation point ! click it and it will tell you the problem.you may need to download a new driver or reinstall the old driver. the only other possibility is the drive is dead :(

This will fix your autoplay:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c680a7b6-e8fa-45c4-a171-1b389cfacdad&displaylang=en

Activity light displays the hard drive activity, which means autoindexing is working. Also, the disk may need defragging.

Which will also make the laptop boot longer.
