Laptop restarts over and over

Is it Win XP or Vista? hit F8 and see if you can get into Safe Mode, if you can goto start , run and type msconfig, disable all and reboot.

If you cant get into to safe mode, hit F8 when computer turns on and scroll to Last Known Good Configuration. see if lets you in.
If you are running Win XP and none of that works. You will have to run your XP CD and do an OS repair, just load the XP CD at boot when setup starts hit ( Enter F8 then R) let it do its thing. Hope this helps Good Luck.

Restarts computer in loop at 5-8 minutes of boot

Please try install XP SP3 in safe mode. Then check whether you have the latest Graphics Card Driver. It seems like some driver issue as it reboots only in Normal mode. Since safe mode runs on minimalset of hardware drivers.
Secondly, there may be a corrupt file that caused reboot. Spend a night and schedule bad sector check - Right click on system drive, Tools tab, Error Checking -> Check Now, tick both boxes then Start. It will schedule scan on next reboot. Then reboot to confirm it starts checking HD.

When i restart my computer no icon came out

try rebooting in "safe mode", by holding 'F8' as soon as you start your system, until the black screen with several boot options shows up. Select "safe mode with Networking". If you can boot it up and see your icons again, try a "system restore" to a time when it worked properly -maybe a few days ago?
To do a system restore:
"Start"
"Programs"
"accessories"
"System tools"
"System Restore"
"Restore my computer to an earlier time"

I hopes, please let me know.
