Best done on a warm machine but it was freezing cold when I eventually succeeded as follows: Similar to above, spray threads with lots of WD40 /liquid wrench type spray -- although its impact will likely be negligible, it reduces the risk of snapping the cap somewhat. Then use a good quality pair of long handled, adjustable "Water pump pliers" (like this: ). Get pair that provide several grooves that allow you to set the narrowest gap allowed. I bought a pair 25 years ago, German made, they have undone numerous things (cars, plumbing, household) where nothing else came close. This is the best tool in the world - period. So don't skimp, get a good pair (not those floppy loose screw types), with flat parallel jaws (a notch for nuts in both jaws is fine). Carefully place the jaws along the plastic "handle"/spine of the cap and slowly turn, be careful to maintain a firm but not excessive grip -- use the leverage of the long handles if you are not terribly strong. Magnifico! (Found: a plastic clothes label tag & much blue powder/limescale around it). After cleaning, lightly lube the threads with WD40 type spray and reassemble, not too tight - use hand tightness only if you can. Then follow the machine instructions (1 litre of water in chamber II & run the "Drain"-cycle) to flush the pump. Done!

This happens because something has come out of someones pocket i bet its a 5p piece this jams cap so you cant undo i fix this by removing drian pump and hoses and shaking out object sometimes its a bra wire which makes it harder try tipping machine back and put on drain setting keep tapping front of filter with wood block or similiar this will normally jar it loose then you can undo cap...check your pockets next time!!!

Try some heating, it would expand the cap a bit & hence enable you to unscrew. Or you can break it open, after you are sure you can replace with a spare from a shop.......... If it has cracked it will sooner or later leak.

My machine a Bosch excel vario keeps displaying E18 and flashes and keeps pipping I canot get the door open tried two washes

E18 indicates a time out draining.

I'm assuming it's stopped full of water.
Put the machine on spin only and see if it empties and spins.

After that you'll need to check it over.

It's very likely there is a blockage preventing the machine draining.

It can also be a faulty pump or control board but this is less likely.

It's a lot of work but try the following.
Check the drain hose where it connects to the house drains.
If onto a connection, take the hose off and check both for a blockage.

This is normally under the sink.

If ok, you'll need to manually remove the remaining water from the machine.

Put a shallow dish in front of the filter/pump cover. (Bottom front of the machine)

Slacken the cap a little to drain the water.

If there is a draining tube, use that to empty the water.
Tighten the cap to stop the water when you need to empty the container.
(If you pull the machine out and tilt it rearward, you can get a larger container in place for a while).

Once the machine is empty of water, take the cap off.
Clean out any debris in there.

Once cleaned out, take the laundry out of the machine.
With the cap off, put the machine on spin only. (If it resets).

Listen at the open filter to see if the pump is running.
(You should see the pump impellor rotating)
If the pump isn't running, let me know.

If the pump is running, refit the cap and try the machine again.
Good Luck

Can I get to the drain pump or does the washer need to be torn apart? I cleaned out the drain plug- full of sand, filter clean, but I can't see the actual drain pump to see if something might be

You can get to the drain filter without need for disassembling. The filter access is located behind the protective trim at the lower front side of the machine. Remove the trim and rotate the filter cap anticlockwise. Be prepared to collect the water that will flow through the filter. After cleaning the filter perform operations in reverse order to reassemble. Disconnect power before starting.
The pump is located at the bottom of the machine, behind the filter. Accessing the pump requires disassembling.

The washe is flashing F-21.

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

F21 error is displayed when the washer is unable to drain, press PAUSE/CANCEL button twice to clear the display. After this please check the drain hose and drain pump filter for any blockages and make sure it is not clogged with foreign particles. You can also check the drain pump to verify that its working. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Hi our hotpoint wf541 starts its cycle as normal but doesnt spin and the mini load and reduce crease buttons flash as well as the on/off button, any ideas of how i can fix this thanks.

hi i had the same problem.
its either your filter is blocked or your pump is not working.
after switching the power off, remove the front bottom panel of the machine and unscrew the filter cap on the right behind that panel. check it's intact and clean iside, if not clean it out or replace it and that should fix it. be careful screwing the filter cap back in and make sure its on tight.
to check your pump is working you can pull out the machine and check that water is coming out of the hose by putting it on the pump out / drain cycle after pouring in some water for it to pump out.

Hello Paula,
Do not know how many flashes but 1green/1red = 11 water pressure low.
2green/1red = 21 blocked filter or pump fault.
You would be best firstly checking the filter and make sure it is clean and pump turns.with water drained and filter out shine torch into filter put on spin/drain and see if pump blade spins if not then try and turn with long screwdriver to free out any debris then refit filter and check for leaks and try donnt fill fully until you are happy it can drain water.
Hope I was of some help.

Good Luck

Washer runs fine until spin cycle--will not drain, though the drain pump motor hums. Also will not spin, which I assume is related to the fact that the tub is still full of water. If we manually empty the...

Hello, This is going to be one of 2 problems...either your drain filter is clogged or your pump is bad. Take off the lower panel on front, Behind this panel you will find what looks like a gas cap to a car. Unscrew this gas cap(have some towels handy to mop up water) remove the drain trap (filter) you should see alot of debris, coins maybe a sock blocking it...clean out the trap and replace. If this does not fix the problem replace the pump, although it sounds like it's humming it may be siezed or impellers might be broken. The pump should be located right next to the drain filter at the front of the machine. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to comment again. Good Luck!!! Mike

Hot point wf541. have top 2 lights on wont pump

The sequence of flashing lights is in fact indicating an error condition on your m/c.
It indicates that the m/c has failed to drain, possibly because the pump filter is blocked.
Your m/c is fitted with a filter system for the pump,
The filter may have become blocked, see care and maintenance in your handbook, in your handbook for details on how to check and clean the filter.
Also make sure the door is shut properly.
If after you have checked all these points, and it still does not work properly, then I suggest you have someone to look at the m/c, or replace the pump if it does not appear to be working.
Hope this helps.
Please leave feedback.
