Most likely a sheared flywheel key, pull the cover off the flywheel and remove the nut that holds the flywheel on. The key slot in the flywheel should line up with the key in the crankshaft if not pull the flywheel and install a new key, or take it to a small engine repair and they will do it for you. If the key is good, reassemble the flywheel nut etc and check for spark at the spark plug and see if the spark plug is wet with gas if you have spark and gas and the flywheel key not sheared and it still won't run, you may have an internal problem

i checked the pin and the alignment with the fly wheel and there is no problem there. also checked the spark and it appears there is no spark from the plug. so maybe a bad coil? but not sure if a bad coil would have cause a pop and then fire come out of the exhaust.
