I had this disgusting problem and learned from a chemist on line:
1) Use HE detergent.
2) Use a TINY amount of detergent.
I use about a tablespoon = 2 short pumps on the Tide dispenser. It is sufficient to totally clean the clothes without feeding the black mold. You will be surprised. The chemist described how a tiny amount does all that is necessary to rearrange the molecules to make dirt magnets. The detergent manufacturers encourage overuse. All the excess detergent just pollutes freshwater after having served no purpose.
3) Leave the door slightly ajar at all times for air circulation. I used the plastic cup lid from the liquid detergent as a prop.
4) I thoroughly cleaned with citric acid (Glisten for dishwasher cleaning) and though it is still somewhat stained, there is no active growth.
5) With the above precautions, I do not have to be constantly cleaning the gasket.

Run the washer with no clothes in it and put some bleach in it....then wipe off the mold that you can get off. Keep in mind that the mold will stain the seal and to prevent any more mold growing when you are not using the washer leave the door open or cracked so that the water can dry.

Mold on inside rubber band and mold in soap dispenser and in back of soap dispenser.

This is quite a common problem and difficult to avoid unless you leave the drawer and door wide open all the time when the machine is not in use (which isn't very practical for most people!). You will find that painting the mould with thich household bleach and leavingit overnight will remove most if not all of the mould. If the first night doesn't get it all out, paint it up again for another night.

Note: You need to be very sure that you have washed all the bleach away after you have done this, so as not to bleach any clothing that then goes into the machine. ash the drawer and rubber thoroughly by hand, paying particular attention to the partially concealed area at the bottom of the rubber gasket between the inner and outer drums. I would also suggest that it is worth putting the machine on a hot wash while empty, to clear any last remnants of bleach.

Kenmore HE2 front load washer

Stay away from front load washing machines as they have too many problems and too many expensive electrical parts such as the door lock part that my tech. changed with no results $140.00 plus central control unit (ccu) which costs around $300.00 not to mention the unit on the underside of the top panel that runs the full width of the machine "like a mother board on a computer" I have no idea what that is worth but it sure looks very expensive and there are more components that if you look at the failure/error display code they start at F01 and run right up to F34 that to me is a sign that there are too many problems for one washer. Also the large rubber gasket that seals the door has to be maintained or you could get mould and a ransid smell in the machine and on your cloths. Just a warning by top load not as many problems

I have a 18month Electrolux 8kg front loader which has mould on the bottom part of the rubber seal. I have always kept the door open after every wash but the mould has set in. I have tried wiping it with...

You will find that wiping it dry, then painting it with thick household bleach and leaving it overnight will have an excellent effect on the staining. The rubber will tolerate the bleach without any problem. If one night doesn't quite cut through the mould, treat again the following night.

Just remember to wash the bleach away thoroughly, so that it doesn't affect any garments in the next wash!

Mold remain in rubber rim of washer

Hi Qqiustin. There are couple of solution for this, you can try that before attempt to change door gasket.1- Run machine empty on Cotton 95C cycle, while it's intaking water add 300ml of bleach.(It could produce some foam but let it go & finish it's cycle)That progress will clean your machine & mould on the door gasket should get disappeared.Alternatively you can try EXIT MOULD or likely products on the super market sells.Follow the instruction.Goodluck.Thanks.

My Samsung washer holds water in the front rubber gasket. Mould grows in this water. How can I get rid of the water---there are drain holes but the water does not drain out.

check that the drain holes are clear, if it still persists unfortunately it will be the way its made what you can do is use a mildew spray to get rid of it then when you have finished using the machine for the day wipe the gasket dry and leave door slightly open to air it should prevent anymore mould setting in.
