I have a IQ America doorbell with 5 chimes and 5 tunes and the bell only plays a sorta gong which cannot even be heard How do I fix this problem so that it plays a chime/tune?

We had a similar problem with a wired doorbell. There is a diode in the doorbell itself that causes the chime to ring fully. If the diode is backwards, you get just a small tone and can only hear the full chime if you hold the button down. If this sounds like your problem, open up the doorbell at the button end (or have an electrician do it) and reverse the diode.

Have had major snow storms in the past few weeks. Installed, prior to storms, new door chimes that worked. Since the storms, neither the front nor side bells function. The bell button has a light on...

Most times, doorbell problems are button, especially since indicator light shows you have power.
Take off front doorbell button and see two wires.
These wires are low voltage and safe to touch.
Use screwdriver and touch both screws together, or remove wires from button and then touch two wires together.
If doorbell rings, then replace button.

If bell still doesn't work then scratch two wires together and look for static-type spark that says wires have power.
If wires have power, and you crossed both wires and bell didn't work, then new door chime is suspect.

If wires do not have power, then transformer is suspect.
Open following link to see example transformer:
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/attic-transformer10.jpg
Transformers are located in basement or attic.
Scratch a wire across both screws on transformer and look for static-like spark.
If no power, then check circuit breaker.
Home centers sell transformers in the doorbell section. They are 12 and 24 volt. Check markings on old transformer.

If transformer has power, then new door chime is suspect.

How do i fix my doorbell

99% of the time, you need a new doorbell button
Also check if any circuit breakers are tripped
Check GFI breakers in baths and kitchen

Real-estate lady answer: buy a new doorbell button and connect 2 wires on back of new button.
Doorbells are low voltage and not dangerous.
If screws are loose in the holes, break off toothpicks in hole so screws have something to bite.
You need small screwdriver:

Repairman answer
Doorbell problems have 3 parts
1) The button
2) The chime or bell located in house
3) The 12V or 24V transformer located in attic or basement
4) rarely the wiring because it's low voltage and does not get hot

1) start at the button.
Remove button from wall
There are two LOW-voltage wires on back of button
Remove 1 wire and touch other wire, copper to copper
Does doorbell ring? Do you see a spark?
If bell rings, then button is bad

2) Chime or bell doesn't ring when button wires are crossed
Take cover off chime
The button works, so have helper push button while you're looking at chime
Can you hear any noise? Have helper push button on-and-off
Chimes have 2 or 3 wires >>> 2 wires if only front door has button, 3 wires if back door also has button
Take one wire loose and scratch it across each of the other wires
Remember front button is held down (or front button wires are twisted together)
Can you see a spark when wires are scratched together?
Try this with more than one wire ... but don't mix up location of each wire
If you are getting a spark, then chime is getting power, but it's not working
Replace chime

3) Transformer in attic or basement looks similar to this:
f6ff230.jpg
Use a wire and scratch across both screws to see if you get a spark
If you get a spark ... and the crossed wires dont ring the chime... and there is no spark at chime, then there is a bad wire
If no spark at transformer, then check circuit breaker
At last resort, but new transformer at Home depot in the doorbell section near light department

How do I reprogram my byron sx81r door bell, it rings anytime and also changes its own tune when it likes

If it plays anytune that it must be picking up another doorbell frequency, and according to the instructions you need to 'reset the digital code' of the frequency for your doorbell. I've had problems doing this with mine, but you never know, it just might work for you....here are the instructions: http://media.chbyron.eu/file/pdf/SX86_EU-IS_-30-01-09_instructions.pdf

Doorbell Byron SX81R keeps ringing different tunes when no one there

I have the same thing happening, it’s your neighbours, they have a similar door bell to yours but set with a different chime. When someone presses their bell yours rings too hence why when you go to the door there is no one there. It was driving me mad!!

Doorbell/cartel

The cadence is different, but you can change all the other rings to a different tone. On a 76xx phone, press PROG and the CO button twice. Press your navigator button up (or down) until you hear the tone you like, then press enter to save.

Tones 01,04 and 05 tend to be reasonable.
