Picture reduced to a horizontal line across center
TV is 5 years old, Hitachi model 35UX80B. Been working great until we turned it on today and within minutes had the screen blank out with the line in the center.... It stay that way for 10-30 seconds, then the picture comes back on for awhile...then it goes out again. Help! Kristy

This is a pretty common fault here Mike. I cannot remember the capacitor number, but it is right off of the flyback transformer and supplies the screen voltage to the picture tube driver transistors. You will need to get a scematic and trace out and check the flyback secondary capacitors for leakage, I am sure you will have more then on or two capacitors that need to be replaced. One more thing with this TV set. Look right under where the picture tubes are on the printed circuit boards, for an indication of fluid leakage or an oily substance. If you see any evidence of this, turn off the TV set and unplug it and call out a tech to try and clean off these boards before any further damage happens. Good Luck
The vertical sweep output section circuit to your TV has the fault. Might be an IC failure, or with some loose solder points at the solder terminals to this IC. As it will be very difficult to detect the exact dry-solder point, it will be best to resolder all the suspected solder terminals to this vertical output section, by applying a little more solder to each terminals, without making any solder bridge short in between adjacent solder terminals.
now only visible in a thin horizontal line.
first of all you reduce brightness to monimum.
it just to protect your tv from crt demage.
your problem is in horizontal output section as you have mentioned that week or so ago the right and left bottom edges of the picture began to move in like a sideways triangle filled with black so this sympton is due to hor. section problem.
your flyback transformer or horizontal output might be defective.
but remember check for power supply is ok from
hope this will help.
this symptom, sometimes called the tube light effect, it is characterised by a bright thin horizontal line across the middle of the screen. this symptom is caused by a breakdown in the vertical deflection circuit. hence maybe the trouble maybe in the vertical oscillator, amplifier or output circuits. but if all i have said is not clear to you, better bring it to a qualified tv technician. good luck!
The verticle output iC or the b+ feed is going bad. To fix it your gonna need a multimeter and experience working with tv. Now to its worth??? do you like the set? Does it have all the fetures and fuctions that you liokeand how good is the picture? It shount cost ya more the 125 to 150 for this repair. Good Luck
When you let the line to long it will burn in!!
you need to look into the VERTICAL output section. Most notably check the solder joints on the vert output IC and ESR the caps.
If you don't know what any of that means, then take it to a
