The radio must be reprogrammed by an authorized dealer to match the frequencies in your RDX radios.

Instruction manual for the radius sp50 Motorola

Before spending much time on this radio, most SP50's will not meet the FCC regulations of Narrowband. We have recycled well over 200 now. Find a dealer, or you could email us with more information (what you want it to do, talk to, etc). There are a few things you are allowed to do with them and we have all the parts.

How do i program my radfius sp50

Take it to a Motorola 2-Way Radio Dealer. They will determine if the channels you want to use can be programmed into that older model radio.

The Radius SP50 is no longer supported by Motorola so software and programming cradle are no longer available.

I CAN HEAR THE DISPATCH BUT THEY CAN'T HEAR ME. WHAT IS IT ? IS IT A MIC,? PLEASE.....HELP. I HAVE A RADIUS SP50 MODEL.

First, make sure the battery is fully charged and red LED TX indicator is on steady as long as you are holding the PTT button. If the red LED blinks while you are transmitting, the battery is not charged, or is bad.
Otherwise here are some common problems with the SP50 that can cause that issue:
Bad PTT switch
Internal microphone is bad
Speaker/microphone is bad-if used
Jacks are bad
Transmitter power amplifier is bad
Antenna is bad

Contact a local dealer for proper diagnosis.

Motorola SP50 Programming

The SP50 is dealer programmable. The software, cable and RIB (radio interface box) are necessary for programming this unit. If you are needing to match an existing unit, you can have the radio programmed at your local dealer or by shipping your radios to a service center. (Typically $15 to $25 US)

When looking for the second radio, be certain to get an SP50 with the same model number as your existing unit to ensure they will work together properly. Model numbers beginning with P93 are VHF and P94 are UHF.

How can i tell if i have a UHF radio or VHF radio

You can use the model number to tell if you are VHF or UHF. You will still need to know the frequency(s) and PL code(s) your radios have to get radios to match.

VHF model number starts with P93.
UHF model number starts with P94.

The current replacement radio for the SP50 is the CP200. It is construction grade and was made to replace the SP50. There are other radios which will also match the SP50 including (but not limited to) the BPR40 and the new CP185.

Dont know what the buttons on the front of the Motorola Radius sp50.

Hello Peedi Krack,

There are two buttons on the front of the Motorola SP50.

MON - This key is a Monitor button. It temporarily disables the squelch control so you can hear any muted or weak signals being sent on the channel. This enables you to ensure the channel is clear before you transmit.

OPT - This button controls Optional functions that might be programmed into the radio, such as channel scan.

Additionally your radio might also have a DTMF keypad (similar to a telephone keypad) depending on which version of the SP50. If installed, the DTMF keypad would be used for signaling and controlling devices over the air.

Best Regards,
Ken
