YES, it has a 48x CD ROM drive.

It is not a burner.

You can play music read data from the CD, but you cannot burn CD's or DVD's.

Emachine cd tray stuck closed

Hi beverlylu328,

It seems like your cd tray has already a defective mechanism.
If a cd was stuck in your cdrom, use the safety eject pin included in the cdrom package.
You can use this even your PC is turned off.
I strongly suggest to replace your cdrom with new one.

Hope this helps you a lot.

Thank you for using FixYa!

Can I boot my e-machine M6810 from a usb cdrom drive? My build in cdrom fell apart and my usb cdrom works when the computer is on, but I can't seem to boot from the new cdrom I have tried changing the...

in short - yes! any e-machine, or indeed any computer build in last 5 years can be boot-up from usb port.

you need to enter bios and setu-up as first boot-up device "other", "boot from another devices", i do not remember which one is actually in this particular bios

plug in your external usb cd-rom, or indeed bootable usb-memory or bootable hdd and they should boot and work as they are on the computer.

another issue, internal cd-rom cannot be really disabled as only mechanical, external part stop working, it' logic part is still there and cmoputer therefore "see" it. you can disable it by downloading newest bios which have bit more power and tweaks than old one.

Why wont my computer play cd's

If the CD is a cd you purchased, it coudl be that your CDROM laser eye is dirty or damaged. If the CD is a "burned" CD-R or CD-RW, your CDROM may not be able to read them.

If the CDROM is a CD-RW then i woudl say that the eye is either dirty, weak, or bad.

CDROM won't spin...computer says it's not ready...is it broken and where can I get a new one.

Any decent computer shop or Radio Shack will supply you with a CD-Rom

They are very cheap now

I would go for a DVD burner combo again you are talking very little in the way of cash

My Cdrom id not detecting the hardware

Hi, Firstly have you recently installed this CDROM or has the problem suddenly occured on a previously working CDROM?

If it was previously working then perhaps the CD has faulted somehow, if you open the PC and unplug the drive and carefully re-plug it again and then reboot the system. Before you open any machine though make sure you are not going to void any warranty that you may have with your machine when you purchased it.

If it still does not work unplug the drive and uninstall the driver and reboot the system then trun it off again and then attache the drive again and see if Windows picks it up.

You could also try using another ribbon cable, ( the one that attaches the drive to the motherboard) as sometimes these fail too.
If you need any other help with this just let me know.
