Brushes may be bad. Heating the windings and glue, causing the smoke. It is a fire hazzard if contunues. Is it worth it to have the motor rebuilt? That is, if the heat damage isn't severe.
Any time an electrical motor burned out, a smoke clound come out and a very unpleasant smell come out. If you did not anticipate the above then look for problem elsewhere.
If it's damp and cold and the motor is smoking a bit it may just be wet (if it is working well otherwise) If it's dry and smoke is coming out of it, there is a short inside and it needs to be changed. In either case, if the smoke smells electrical (steam does not smell) change it as soon as you can because the additional amperage needed to run it will also damage control components upstream of the motor.
no ohter reason for smoke comes to mind under the hood
sounds like maybe the valve cover gaskets 20 to 30 dollars here in canada
not very hard to replace take off the valve cover take out old gasket clean the area good and put new gasket in tighten valva cover down usally untill you see the gasket compress a little being carefull not to tighten to much and either break a bolt ot strip it
The Motor is Burning oil. This is the cause of the White Smoke. The noise is Possibly a Lifter inside the Motor. The only way to get these to stop is to Rebuild that Motor at this Point.
it may just be a wire rubbing the tub and the insulation is gone. smoke means something is not right. the drive motor will smoke if the windings overheat neccesitating a new motor. - the start or run capacitor for the motor may be bad.
