It looks like they are part of the motherboard.
If they are physically damaged a competent repair shop can replace them probably a couple hours of labor ($120-$200 depending on the place. If they dont work at all then I would just buy a USB PCMCIA card which plugs into the side instead ($20-40).

I have one of these I use at home. You have three choices here. One is to get a USB wifi adapter which is cheapest, or get a PCMCIA adapter (the credit card looking things that slide into the side) or find one of the compaq wifi adapters for the 610. These are the slowest, and mount under the grey portion of the cover. There is one screw that holds it on and the cover then slides off. You can find these for sale on ebay.
The USB ones work but the usb ports are only USB1 so they are slower and take a noticable amount of overhead to use. The PCMCIA cards work the best.
Not at all!!
I've installed Windows7 in my n610c (with !gb ram) and my laptop is perfectly working. Windows 7 is not the 'awful' Vista!!! The most important things are W7 drivers for this laptop. In order to obtain these drivers, you've to download and install 7zip, then you've to expand in folders the exe files of audio ,video, etc. drivers of windows xp, and let the system find the suitable drivers.. InstallingXP drivers (exe files) in W7 is not possible!
Also ram may be increased over 1Gb, but you've to install the O.S. after having upgraded your ram, otherwise graphic card will be not working, even reinstallig its driver!!! I've just made these operations in two Compaq evo n610c, successfully. I'd a problem only for Infrared port, but I've fixed it 'asking' system to find the driver into an external usb HDD full of drivers of various PCs. After a few time , also Infrared port driver was OK. I've made a backup od windows7 drivers (you may use double driver(free) or Windriver Ghost (not free), in order to backup w7 drivers. Regards D.
In almost all cases (90%) I have seen, the USB ports are not replaceable or repairable since they are soldered to the main board. Additionally, the manufacturers generally do not sell these components seperately and only as part of the main board. Before going through the effort of getting to the ports I would contact the manufacturer (HP) and see if you are able to obtain the (USB) part to fix. you may be faced with having to replace the mainboard which will require quite a bit of labour and removal of items including a high cost that you may opt not to choose?
If you need more help in deciding on what option to choose let me know
Unfortunately, there are no drivers available for windows 98. Most of your memory sticks will not work on windows 98. Your best bet is to burn your files on a CD and use that instead.

You need a PCMCIA Wireless adaptor, (this model you are getting has two slots that it will fit in) - and you must make sure you have a wireless router in your house to broadcast a wireless signal for it to recieve.
THANKS I WILL ORDER ONE. GEORGE
