SOURCE: philips tv chassis L9.2A

The flashing LED is an indication code of a board problem. If the TV is shutting down after a very short period of time, it is an indication the something is heating up. To isolate the problem, you will need to purchase some freeze spray ( component cooler ) at your local electronic shop. turn the tv on and spray an area ( usall about 1/4 of the board at a time ) and try to isolate the bad part ( component ). By repeating this process after a bit of time, you should find the part thats bad when you cool the part and the set stays on until the part heats up again. Then simply replace the part and your good to go. Always use precautions when working inside a tv as the picture tube can have as much as 35,000 volts on it ( can cause bodly harm or death ). DON'T COME IN CONTACT WITH THE WIRE OR GET CLOSE.
Good luck and I hope this has helped

SOURCE: sony tv wont turn on, standby light just flashes

check for an open resistor on the power supply, it is actually a fusible resistor, (white) if open, then check the converter, some sets have two separate and some have it as one. it will be on a heat sink on the power supply. if shorted then check for a shorted horizontal output transistor and repair cold solder joints on the horizintal drive transformer which is the real cause of this problem

SOURCE: TV won't turn on, red light flashes twice

Fortunately, Sony, of all manufacturers, has built in a diagnostic tool to help you decide what the problem is.

Below is a text on these codes. This is not your model, but the basic diagnosis remains the same. You can count the number of blinks and then look up the problem and solution below:

-----------------
Sony Blinking Codes
Many of the later model Sony TV's have a built in Self- Diagnosis function. If the timer/standby indicator is blinking, this could be an indication of the problem with the unit. The diagnostic blinking will occur automatically with no action required by you to engage it.
The timing of the blinking you see would be as follows: two to eight blinks (depending on the fault) about a third of a second apart, then pauses for 3 seconds, then the two to eight blinks about a third of a second apart again.
Here is a list of the problems that might have occurred indicated by the number of blinks. The words in parentheses are those which you will see for each of these faults on a diagnosis screen described later in this article.
Unit is dead and there are no blinks---Problem in the standby power section. Might check fuse, R607, Q601, IC601, R612 and VDR601 (should show open)
Continuous Blink Once A Second, No Pausing As Discussed Above---

No reply from the jungle IC301 (data bus is busy, shorted to ground or held high), IK video path is defective.
ONE Blink--- not used for the self-diagnosis
TWO Blinks---B+ over current protection (OCP) , unit goes to the standby
mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of
any of the circuits.
THREE Blinks---B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby
mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power
supply circuit, check T603 and R672.
FOUR Blinks---No Vert. Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single
horizontal line then the video signal muted. Check IC1509, Q1505
FIVE Blinks---AKB circuit (AKB), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about
30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with
the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C
board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. Also unit be in IK blanking,
try turning up screen slightly.
SIX Blinks---No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking selfdiagnosis
function immediately. Check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206.
SEVEN Blinks---High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k
and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply
regulation and horizontal circuits.
EIGHT Blinks---Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and
blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401 and 402.
Intermittent problems ?? This is a great feature. You can also bring up
these fault codes ON-SCREEN to see a list of the problem numbers with the
abbreviation of the problem and the number of times this problem has
occurred. This is slightly different than entering the service mode. To see the
diagnostic screen, Press the following buttons:
Display, Channel, 5, Vol Minus, ( Not plus ) then Power. This brings up
a screen with a list of the problems and number of times they have occurred.
Each of the problem names is abbreviated as, "OCP", "OVP", "V STOP", ETC.
We have repeated them in parentheses in the text for the "Blinks" described
above so you can correlate between the diagnostic screen and the blink
codes.
So, now that you know about these self-diagnostics, how do you use them?
Say that you have a set with a black screen. You see that the LED is blinking
4 times....This would tell you that you have no vertical and that is why the
video is muted. If it was blinking 6 times, you would know that you have a
horizontal fault.
It's not a sure cure, but it's a little better than a poke in the eye with a sharp
stick.
IMPORTANT: after you repair the unit, PLEASE clear the values on this diagnostic screen. These codes do not reset themselves after the fault is 0 corrected, so if you don't clear them, you'll be seeing "old" fault codes the
next time you enter this screen. Clearing is done by going into the service mode ( display, channel, 5, volume plus, then power ) then press 8 and Enter, which of course returns
everything to the factory preset condition.

----------------

As a general rule, the blinking standby light means serious problems and you would be better off getting a technician involved.

This set is a very expensive one and it has some life left in it. Further it is a Sony, so you will be wise to get it fixed.

After studying the blinking codes, let me know if you have any further questions.

Have a great Holiday Season,
Cleggsan

SOURCE: stand by light keeps flashing and tv wont turn on

Any malfunction associated with a flashing stand-by light with a re-set clicking sound usually indicates a circuit problem or defective component. Unfortunately, the days of taking off the back cover of your TV and replacing a defective tube or fuse are long gone. Proper servicing will require troubleshooting procedures that can only be performed by a qualified electronic repair facility or professional television repair person. Ask for an estimate and a realistic appraisal of whether the set can be adequately fixed. Depending on the age and condition of your TV it may not be cost effective to repair.

Please describe the problem more accurately. Flashing red usually means 'stand-by' state, flashing blue/green - starting up. When (during that) do you have a sound? Are there any 'high voltage' sounds like soft screeching from the screen? Is it LCD or LED?

TV will not turn on. I press power and it sounds like it's coming on and then clicks and the stand by light flashes 7 times. Have already tried unplugging and then plugging back in after a minute

When I called a tv repair company the rep said this usually indicates that the "lamp" for this model needs to be replaced. Since he TV is so heavy he suggested that I access the trap door in back of the console and detach the "lamp" myself and bring the lamp to his shop for replacement. Approximate cost for the lamp is $200.00. Wish me luck.

My tv was working fine last night, but now it won't turn on. The red stand by light flashes twice and then stops. What is the problem?

Please let me know if you can get any sound at all out of your unit.
solution

I had a similar problem. I had a 52" RCArear projection tv. It would do this when I initially turned on the television, but then after a few "on/off, on/off, on/off" cycles it would stay on. Eventually it started doing it more; until finally there was a spark and that was it. The tv was dead. The bloggers called it "the blinking green light of death" (because of green light on the panel). The power board is going out.ALSO holding down the Input and Menu buttons afterward will give you some diagnostic information via 2 sets of blinking indicator lights.

You may very well have issues with capacitors on this set being that it is or very similar to the V26 chassis. Since I have spare test lamps laying around, I would normally try that first. If the lamp still would not stay lit, I would then suspect the electrical chassis (capacitors). When I suspect the chassis, I can usually verify it by pulling it out and partially disassemble it and find blown capacitors

When I power up, 5 seconds later this back projector TV turns itself off

t does sound like a bulb problem, either its over heating and shutting off to protect itself, or its already shot. Give a TV repair shop a call and see if they can give you an approximate price, then decide to ditch or repair it.
