Bought used; put oil in and just runs out. Is there a gasket that needs replacing or a crack someplace?

Is it a Mac? This is a common problem on low year 2000 Macs. Most saw shops won't even repair these saws, repair exceeds replacement cost. Sorry

I bought a 1997 Cadillac Catera and the oil is milky looking. I am told it could be the head gasket. However it runs very rough and acts like it wants to blow up when pushed past 45mph. car not smokin


You should not be running it like that. The problem is the engine coolant is leaking into the oil. There is no doubt about that .The cause is a failed head gasket , cracked head or cylinder. You running the engine like that are putting bad oil into places that it is not supposed to be. Besides rust and overflow, you will cause excess wear.

Sounds like a gasket yes. If the head is aluminum it could be warped, or bock could be cracked. Either way, water in exhaust system is not a good sign. Check the oil. If there are bubbles, foam, or anything but oil, then you know it's mixing someplace.

Hi I need help with my 2004 Freelander TD4: suddenly blue/white smoke coming out the back of the car ( the car did not over heated the heat gauge was at normal position) notes that there was oil leaking...


cracked block. once it heats up the crack gets bigger and the oil gets thinner which makes more oil burn. run car without the oil cap on and see if lots of air/ oil comes out if so thats blow by and you need a new engine.

Oil change in a 1986 chevy nova


Very easy on this car. You don't even need to put the car up if you're not a big person. Remove the oil fill cap on the valve cover the warm and off engine. Unbolt the oil pan drain bolt at the bottom (don't lose the gasket) and let the oil drain out. Clean off bolt hole face and put the gasket and bolt back on. Bolt does not need much torque. Unscrew the oil filter on the front of the engine (might need filter wrench). Clean off filter face and make sure old gasket is removed (usually comes off with the filter). Put on new filter. Do not overtighten

While underneath, look around for leaks, damage to CV joint boots, cracks in hoses, etc.

Fill with about 3.5 qt 10-30W oil. Put oil fill cap back on. Run engine for about 30 sec. Shut off and check for leaks. Check oil level on dipstick after a couple minutes of engine running and add oil if needed.

Mark date and odometer in your log book. Recycle used oil.

My car either has a cracked block, needs head gasket or? When I put water in the radiator, it comes out the oil pan without starting the engine.


I think a cracked block would be very unlikely. More than likely to be a head gasket problem. A decent mechanic shouldn't have any trouble pressure testing each cylinder to diagnose the fault. I'm assuming it's a V8? there are other possible causes also. Cracked head, faulty inlet manifold (v8, if it has water jackets in the manifold). I would have it checked out before assuming it needs a motor.

Cracked drip pan on a 1996 3.8 Rivera Buick.


Hi! My name is Tom and I can help you.

By drip pan I am going to assume you mean oil pan. First you need to get your car on blocks or up in the air enough to reach the oil pan.

Remove the drain plug and drain the oil.(discard the oil). You will see a number of bolts securing the pan. Using the proper box wrench remove all the bolts.

You will see a gasket. This must be replaced. You can purchase the proper pan gasket by asking for a pan gasket at an auto parts store. While you are there ask for the proper sealant for the gasket.

Clean the pan and any oil on the surface where the gasket will touch. Place gasket sealer around the pan and seal the gasket to the pan cover. Replace the pan. Put the bolts back and fill with oil. Start the car and get it to operational temperature and check for leaks. You are now Good to go.

This is a fairly involved yet simple fix.

Have an oil leak from somewhere under the engine. Have already replaced the oil pan gasket, and the valve cover gaskets. Still have oil coming from under engine someplace. What could be possible problem?


check the oil pressure sending unit,clean engine then look to see where it is leaking,could be oil sending unit,dist drive seal or engine rear main.Need to determine wich side of engine.

2004 crf 450 r atifreeze in the oil and put new water pump and all that in it and they say it needs head gasket but if that dont work does that mean the blocks cracked


You may have put the seals in backwards. They must go in a specific direction. If that is ok, is the water on the right side oil, or left side oil? Right side you have a seal problem, Left side you have a head gasket. The cylinder wont crack unless destroyed. Replace head gasket and the bad oil on bad side. Chaz Moto DC

take out all the spark plugs and put a radiator pressre tester on the radiator and pressurize the system, then inspect each spark plug hole for coolant. you will find out what cylinder or head will need service. How did this car run before sitting? Blue smoke is not good, although it doesnt sound like you have run it long enough to verify any real cyl problems. if its smoking it may be overhaul time. and the complete engin ewill need disassembly.
