Hello,

tinyurl.com is a utility/website that translates very long website addresses into short ones. You may need to go back to whomever gave you the info to get some more details.

In the meantime - I understand you get the proper speeds when plugged directly into the modem but it is slower going through the router. When you are on the router are you wired or wireless? If you are wireless, are you using an "N" standard adapter and is the router set to use wireless at the highest speed? To check the wireless speed in the router - please open the router interface, go to Setup / Wireless Settings. Under the Mode drop down, select Highest.

Please post back on your progress. Thank you.

    A few questions:

How does the speed differ if you wired through the router versus wireless through the router?

Does you wireless network adapter comply with N standards or a G standards?

Have you verified the router settings show Highest under the Wireless mode?

I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

WI fi has some limit Your router is 801.e standard so 11000 MBPS is limitation with your router.
You can do 1 more thing to increase max speed with change channel type.
For that access your router with following link.
http://192.168.1.1
or
http://192.168.0.1
type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or blank "password"
then you can see configuration of wi fi router.
Go to wireless and check channel type 4 , 6 and 11 these 3 gives best result.
Try all 3 1 by 1 then save settings and restart router.
Then check speed .
set channel which give max speed .
Let me know if you need more assistance.
Thanks.

Upgrade firmware on NETGEAR router.

Many a times, it is required that you upgrade the firmware on your NETGEAR for it to function properly and be equipped with the latest updates and feature offered by NETGEAR.

I have listed the specific steps which are required to upgrade firmware on most of the NETGEAR

A. Open the router page using the following way:

1. Connect a computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports.
2. Open the browser(Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox).
3. Access the router, usually with http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://www.routerlogin.com.
4. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the username and password is case sensitive. In case you have changed the password for router login then you need to use that one).

B. Visit the following link to download the latest firmware.

http://kb.netgear.com/app/

Type the model make of your NETGEAR router and it will show you the download page for that specific product.

C. Please follow the steps to upload the firmware of the router:

1. Open the router page using the steps as mentioned under step A.
2. Under Maintenance, click router Upgrade.
3. Click Browse and locate the upgrade file.
4. Click Upload.
5. Wait for the router to reboot.
6. Click on 'Logout' (at the bottom of the list) from left menu.

It is recommended that you reset and then reconfigure your router for the firmware to upload properly.

NOTE: Please upgrade the firmware on a computer connected wired to your router. Upgrading firmware on a wireless computer may cause your router to malfunction and can lead your router to be in an unusable state.

These steps will succesfully allow you to upgrade firmware on your NETGEAR router.

If you are referring to the RP614v1 not v2 then the latest firmware update is 4.15 and is located here: ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/rp614v1_4_15rc4.bin .

  3. Click Maintenance > Router Upgrade.
  4. Click Browse and locate the new firmware which you just downloaded.
  5. Click Upload.
  6. Wait for the router to reboot.
  7. Turn the router power off.
