"and said the card was bad because it was turned on." You are quoting? If a component or device can be turned on, it hardly be bad. And additionally they don't know where you can buy such card. If I were you, I would check My Computer > Right Mouse Button > Manage > Device Manager. If you have ! ? on the wi-fi card, probably need to install a driver, which should be located on the CD you should have with the laptop. If the card is really defective, for which you should ask a good technician, insist at woot for a replacement of the laptop or a free repair in authorized service near you. If they behave like Verizon, kindly inform them that when you fix your internet access, the world, or at least your friends, will know about the quality of their support. If this does not help and installing an internal wi-fi card is very expensive, you can get a usb one, I can recommend Netgear WG111v3 since I have the same. But plugging and unplugging it every time might be annoying, if you move the laptop often. HTH
