Question about HTC G1
I had this same problem with a g1 i purchased from someone.. i did a hard reset then locked myself out totally couldn"t bypass the touch the android screen. I found out there is a smaller ribbon that connects to the the back of the screen that came apart either by dropping just tumbling around or whatever. the phone didnt show signs of damage anywhere so i think its just from bouncing around. But i have to warn you its hard as hell to put the thing back together again with the sliding mechanisms and getting the ribbon down there perfectly in place again. There are like 6 ribbons (screen, camera, keyboard, etc.) that have to be connected perfectly and tons of screws i found out half didnt even need to be taken out! But after a few hours of fumbling around its working perfectly.. the screen is responsive and phone is back to normal

There are known issues with many of the HTC touch screens becoming unresponsive. You can try to clean the perimeter of the screen with a card, etc then wash any oil from the screen...just in case. But a huge number of these have been coming back to the vendors broken, if this is the case you can only contact your provider and hope you can get it replaced/repaired under the warrenty.
