D Link wireless problem hooking up to 2 pcs

I have a pentium 3 desk top and an older IBM Think Pad lap top that I would like to use via the internet. The Think pad has a wireless card by netgear PCMCIA Mobile adapter,Model FA411.
We used the Wireless Router step by step instructions but as soon as we attach the router to the modem, I no longer have internet access on my desk top.
We have tried to click on Start, then Run, and type in "CMD" dos window
"ispconfig/release" & ispconfig/renew" but an error box comes up that says it cannot find the path?
Can you please help us? any suggestions?

I assume you have an internet connection based on a phone line or cable with a modem attached to your router to your desktop -- when no computer can access the internet. When your desktop attaches directly to the modem without the router it works.

The following are the high probability errors there are many more.

This is indicative that the router may not configured correctly on the WAN side to connect to the ISP's modem. The requirements for this are generally capable of being retrieved from your ISP's website. Another possibility is that the DNS addresses wre not loaded into the routers lan side config or DHCP services may be disabled.

The same problems can be blocking wireless access although there can be others, too.

If you can provide your ISP's name or even better their a link to their support site in a comment that could start the process by which I can find those requirements for you. If you are not confortable configuring a router then I will also need confirmation of the model number of the D-Link Router, so I can assure we have the same version of the manual to reference configuration steps for you to execute.

I am going to give you a couple of other things to try, I'm not sure of they will work but if they do we will be closer to an answer.

Do these things when the desktop is hooked to the modem and when it is hooked to the router and from the laptop after you have attempted to connect to the router.

Open a command or dos prompt window

Start then All Programs then Accessories the Dos/Command Prompt

A new window will open in that window type the following command and press enter --

ipconfig /all

Copy down the following information if the command works
IP Address -- probably 192.168.0.? if attached to the router
Subnet Mask --- probably if attached to the router
Default Gateway -- probably 192.168.0.? if attached to the router
DNS Address(es) -- may be one or more

After than for each default gateway enter the following command replacing {default gateway} with the default gateways from the returned by the ipconfig command above (ignore addresses) and press enter

ping (default gateway}

This command will respond 4 times either with a timeout or a line if data with elapsed time in ms (milliseconds). If it timesout all 4 times it fails, if it gets elapsed times all 4 times it worked, if it gets a mixture we may have a flaky cable or something but it is working but not well.

Now the important information is as follows

The DNS address from when the desktop was hooked to the modem should match the DNS addresses for both computers when connected to the router. I expect the desktop to successfully connect to the router on one adapter (in case there is more than one) For that adapter where the ping works
the subnet mask and the default gateway should match the ones received from the wireless adapter on the laptop. The beginning of the IP address for both the desktop and laptop should match the gateway address normally for the first three of the four numbers (only when the subnet mask is

Please respond to this message with a comment indicating what you could do and what you found out so I can provide some next steps to complete this process. If you do not understand the address matching above send me the outputs of the ipconfig commands and tell me which gateway pings worked and I will make the judgements.

Order NoVAB46113535 Ref Serial No VJDFRRC2C4YQ Dear Sir. My Subscriptions to Norton Internet Security [3 user] was renewed on February 22nd 2010. Can you please inform me of the 3 user statement does this...

As i researched the 3 user subscription refers to max 3 pcs per house. There shouldn't be extra payment and I strongly suggest to contact Norton directly and ask for refund or explanation. I also suggest that you must not let anyone link automatically to your bank account and charge you. Do your purchases one by one. I hope you are not scammed through email! Hope that helped!!

No Internet via zoom X6 wireless router to desk top, lap top ok.

Access your zoom router by using the laptop which still has access to the router.

Your going to have to open your Wireless Network Connection Status window located under your network settings.

If you see this window your going to left click the (details) button

Now you should see a IP DNS server address
for example:

Type that address onto the address bar of your web browser.

it should take you to your router setup page.

There you will need to check if the lan port is enabled

I can not detach my IBM Think pad 2662 lap top from the driver

I had the same issue. Here's what I did. Not sure if it will work for you. But give it a try.
1) turn on the machine and press "F2" to go into set up.
2) Press alt-p seven times to go to the last page.
3)Press the down arrow to highlight HDD password. Set a password as instructed and reboot the machine.
4) You can remove this password later once your machine starts fine.

Even if you didn't get try this too.

1. Make bootable CD which contains Norton Ghost or other disk image software
2. Boot your system using bootable CD with Norton Ghost software, u can use Hiren's CD ISO image. If u don't know about hiren just google it.

2. Once you boot up , open Norton Ghost click LOCAL-> PARTITION->FROM IMAGE

3. Now "look in" for "[DellRestore]FAT drive" and select this drive (this is recovery partition)

4. Now go to "IMG" folder and select FI.GHO file

5. Click Open and there you go... Process started

Although cable to desktop connects to internet, my router from desktop to laptop via router won't connect.

Desk top to internet is OK.
How about Destop through Router connection to Internet OK?
Assuming you want to connect wireless from Lap top to Network, need to configure correctly for wireless in Router.
If you connect Lap top to router by wire and it didn't work that mean your router is bad.

I was given a think pad 2647 and I can't get on the internet.

It may not detect it automatically. You will need to configure your dial up modem if you are trying to connect to the internet that way. Go into the network connections and go through the wizard there. It should ask you for the telephone number to dial for internet access so have that handy. If you don't get that box, you went to the wrong area.

Question on setting up two computers

Yes, I have pretty much the same setup at home. Wired desktop and wireless laptop. On the back of your wireless router, there should be 4 or 5 wired connections which you can use. You will only have to use the setup disk on one computer. Basically, the setup disk is for the router, not the computers, it simply guides you through the router configuration process. You can also do this manually, the manual for the router will give those instructions as well.

Can not connect laptop to router ?

The 1st thing I recommend is you connect the laptop directly to the Dlink router using a standard patch network cable. See if you can get on the internet using that method. If you can't then we know you have a problem somewhere else.

did this model ship with a built in wireless card?
