Question about Kenmore Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a Kenmore top load Elite series washer (Model #110.24962300) that I need to change the timer on. I can't figure out how to open up the top to get at the timer. Can someone help?

I've got this diagram in the manual. I'm trying to find out how to lift the panel with all the knobs on it. The tech who checked out the washer had it lifted up so you could see everything. I didn't see how he did it, and for the life of me I dont see any kind of latch or button that releases the top it can swing up and open like he had it. Do you know how he might have done it?

It looks like I have the end caps that don't "just pop off". The website you sent was helpful up to a point.
    http://www.american-appliance.com/images...

This shows a picture of my machine's control panel. The only difference is where the end caps wrap around on the front of the control panel in this picture, the end caps on my machine are flush with the control panel. You can see pictures of what I'm talking about here:

Any ideas on how to "pop" these end caps. It's probably going to be something simple that I'm overlooking, but I'm just not seeing it.

Go to the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=110.24962300

Under the sub-component section for the Control Panel you'll see an exploded diagram of all of the components.

The Top and Cabinet diagram should give you an idea of how to get to the timer.

You will have to remove the end caps on either side of the control panel. Usually they just pop off. Underneath should be a clip that can be removed.

See the following on how to remove the clips and the cabinet.

Looking at the Sears parts site for the control panel, there appears to be a "clip" #8 that holds the end panels on.

It's possible that by sliding a thin screwdriver under the edge of the end caps, you can pop the clip.

Timers are not supposed to make loud clicks. If it is, it's going bad. The same problem happened with my parent's Estate washer. It its on it's third timer!

Sounds like the timer is faulty. Or you lid switch is out of wack. Try leaving leaving lid open and placing a screwdriver in switch located where the lid clip comes down into washer. If this works the switch will need replaced. Timer is another story as you will have to remove top panel and replace timer if the lid switch is not the cause

Kenmore Series 80 Washer timer knob spins

Something in the timer came apart. Timer needs replaced. When in good working order, the timer should ONLY ever be turned clockwise..Reversing this could break it.
