Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook

Will not power & lcd scren will not light

I have a dell inspirion e1505 i recently repladed the motherboard and the hard drive. when i hit the power button the lights glow green and flash but nothing appears on the screen. after about 15 seconds of flashing it complete shuts off. what can this be?

Several things. The system appears that is it not POSTING (The flashing Lock LEDs are a NO POST indication)
Try RAM modules one at a time, make sure they are inserted at a 30 degree angle till the contacts are all the way into the slot, then press down and lock into place, only the very top edge of the gold contacts should be visible.
If the system still doesn't post with all drives out, battery out and a single memory module, then either the replacement motherboard is bad, the processor is not installed correctly or damaged, or the RAM is damaged.

Your husband just might be correct:

  • Install the memory sticks.
  • Reseat the memory sticks.
  • Replace the memory sticks.
  • Replace the motherboard / system board.

CPU and RAM do not have any moving parts so it is very unlikely that they would fail. Just make sure that you reseated them properly and move on.
The most likely point of failure on any computer is the hard drive.
Insert your Windows CD/DVD and attempt to boot to it. This will bypass the hard drive.
If your computer boots to the CD/DVD and allows you to select options then the problem is the hard drive and you should replace it ASAP!
If it does not boot to the CD/DVD you should try replacing your AC adapter or motherboard. Look on eBay for the best pricing on replacement parts.

I misplased my laptop cd to install hardware& was wondering were i could get a replacement for my inspirion E1505 ,ijust installed e new hard drive.

Dell e1505 no start, flashing lights.


The symptoms you've described point to a failure in the system board. You can try to remove the ram memory and reinsert them to see if this solves your error. If the error persists then most likely the failure is the motherboard itself.

First hit ctrl-alt-del at the same task manager will open and you can shut it down there then go to control panel and click on add/remove programs, select media direct and click uninstall

Dell inspirion 6000 a green light flashes and it does not turn on


It's either:

the lcd
video (GPU)
motherboard
lcd cable.

It's really hard to say without being there in person. I'd recommend having a local tech check it out.
