My refrigerator/freezer unit is not getting electricity

My refrigerator and freezer unit will not get any electricity at all. The circuit breaker has been reset. What do I do from here? I can't find any fuses if there are any.

Check your thermal fuse by compressor, then see if you can take the cover off the contactor and with an insulated stick manually start the compressor by pushing in on contactor unit on the side of the compressor

Suddenlly stopped working

Hello tru..... if the entire appliance stopoped working pull it out and test the outlet that it is plugged into. To test that, plug a lamp or a blow dryer into that outlet and see if you have power to that point. IF you do not have power, go to your electrical panel and check the circuit breaker or the fuse. To check the circuit breaker, turn it all the way off and all the way on twice. With a fuse that is blown you must replace it. Joe

Thanks for choosing Fixya!

My refrigator/freezer is kicking off the circuit breaker each time I plug it in

Two obvious possibilites. One, it may not be the only unit on that circuit. If you have a 15 or 20 amp breaker, and have more than one unit like this, you are pulling too many amps for the breaker. That happens frequently. The other possibility is a dead short somewhere in the unit. Try plugging it in to a different outlet that you know has nothing else on that circuit. If it comes on and runs, You need to run a didicated circuit for this freezer only. A dead short in the machine will kick any outlet that it is plugged into. You will have to isolate each circuit in the freezer to find which one is grounded out.

Fridge keeps blowing the breaker

Depending on what is causing the breaker to blow will be important to know. Refrigerators do draw a good bit of power on a 20 amp circuit especially when the refrigerator goes into defrost. Refrigerators are made to run on a 20 amp circuit without other machines or appliances using the same power circuit. Circuit breakers weaken over time too especially if they have more than they are. rated for plugged into the same circuit. And your circuit may be doing its job by detecting an excessive draw of power when the refrigerator is plugged in. You must have someone that knows electricity to inspect your refrigerator for shorting and the circuit it is plugged to for correct wiring for every ones safety. Thanks, Sea Breeze

GFCI on refrigerator circuit cuts off.

Yes. Refrigerators should not be on gfci protected circuits. They should have a dedicated 120v circuit .If your kitchen is new enough to be wired with gfci breakers ,it should also have an outlet dedicated for the refrigerator.

Unit not running, not cooling electronic

To operate, a refrigerator needs electricity. If the refrigerator's light doesn't work and it's motor doesn't run:

1) Check the power. Make sure the receptacle works (plug in a working lamp or a circuit tester). If the receptacle doesn't work, check for a tripped circuit breaker or blown fuse.

2) Be sure the cold control is turned on.

3) If you discover that the refrigerator is plugged into a working outlet and the cold control is on but the device shows no signs of life, leave the door closed to retain the cold air and call an appliance repairperson
