There isnt a switch for a PCMCIA wireless card. Most likely the driver did not install correctly.

make sure the card is plugged in. then right click "my computerWhere is the wireless switch - 1.gif" and click properties then click hardware1.gif then device manager. I bet there is a device called "network controller" with a yellow "!" through it. Next make sure the linksys install CD is in the drive, and doubleclick "netowrk controller" then click reinstall driver and let it "automatically find the driver". it should reload the correct one from the CD.

let us know if this helps.

Have a MPC x 1000 transport are there a way to add wireless to this notebook?

Sure is if you have a USB Port or a PCMCIA Slot.

The usb port is the best option because it is the latest technology. But if you don't have a usb port then go with the pcmcia slot.

Just click the link below and in the white search box at the top of the web page type: usb wireless adapter or pcmcia wireless adapter then press GO.

Does this devise pick up internet on laptop or desk top either one

Hi cfisherman8

This is a PCMCIA Wireless Adapter Card.

It slots into the large PCMCIA Port that almost all larger laptops and notebooks have.

This device can also work in a Desktop computer but requires a PCMCIA Cardbus Adapter to be installed in the Desktop Computer for it to slot into. There are different types of Desktop PCMCIA Cardbus Adapter. Some types internally connect a PCMCIA Wireless Adapter Cardbus to an empty Motherboard PCI Slot and others externally connect a PCMCIA Cardbus to the computer via its USB or Serial Ports. See here for examples:

http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Port-CardBus-PCMCIA-Adapter/dp/B000BMMN7K/ref=sr_1_21?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1316320335&sr=1-21

http://www.amazon.com/Startech-Cardbus-Adapter-Transfer-115-2kbps/dp/B004WGR6YG/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1316320098&sr=8-12

http://www.amazon.com/Quatech-PCD-X-U142--CardBus-adapter/dp/B001BEF3YC/ref=sr_1_28?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1316321566&sr=1-28

Other alternative internal wireless networking devices for Desktop computers include a PCI Wireless Network Card. See example here:

http://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Wireless-802-11n-Network-Adapter/dp/B002DYIZ2Q/ref=sr_1_14?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1316320278&sr=1-14

Once installed, it is able to send and receive data wirelessly between the computer and any Wireless Router/Modem to which the computer is configured to connect.

This device is most easily used with a Laptop. An easier solution for a Desktop PC would be a USB Wireless Adapter.

I hope this helps.

USB 1.1 and Wireless stick is 2.0

There are PCMCIA adapters that are made to handle USB 2.0. Of course why go to that expense. Just buy a PCMCIA network adapter.

Wireless Card will not fit in slot

First, make sure that the type of card that you bought is compatible with the slot. Your presario can use Type I or II standard PC or PCMCIA cards. If the linksys adapter that you bought is not a PC/PCMCIA card, rather an ExpressCard, it really won't fit.

Linksys WPC54GS wireless adapter installation issue

There's a possibility that the adapter is defective. However, you may still try the following:

1. Make sure to uninstall the software if you still have it installed. Remove it from the Programs list or under Add/Remove Programs.
2. Check Device Manager and make sure adapter is not under Network Adapters nor Other Devices. It might be called Network Controller if driver is not installed correctly.
3. Unplug card, shutdown computer and when PC is powered off, plug card back and restart computer. You may insert the CD on this process, but do not run/continue the CD setup wizard.
4. When computer is back on, you should get a Found New Hardware bubble message or wizard.

Just finish the wizard and tell me how it went. Goodluck!

It sounds like you may have a band PCMCIA slot. Have you attempted to use any other expansion cards in it to test this theory?
