How to add a printer in Vista

I have an HP Laser Jet 1100 hard-wired to my wireless-enabled desktop Compaq running XP. I also have a wireless-enabled HP Pavilion laptop (running XP) and another, new wireless-enabled HP laptop (running Vista). Today, I was able to access the printer from the XP laptop through wireless printer sharing. When I tried to access the printer from the new, Vista laptop, going through "Network and Sharing Center", clicking on "Printers" in the folder tree under "Network", then right-clicking "Printers" to click on "Add a printer", I received this message: :You do not have sufficient rights to perform this operation". Why? I am the sole user of the wireless-enabled Vista laptop and I employ no passwords. So, how do I had a printer, the HP Laser Jet 1100, to the wireless-enabled Vista laptop for remote sharing?

Basically, I need to know how to avoid the "You do not have sufficient rights to perform this operation" message when I attempt to add a printer. I can't believe I would be blocked from adding a printer to my new laptop's printer list. The idea that I cannot access the "Add A Printer" wizard makes no sense. The new laptop, which I've had but two weeks, runs Vista Home Premium.

From the system that the printer is hosted, grant the user (the user name that you use to connect to this second computer) on the second computer rights on the security properties of the printer and try and connect to the printer again from the system.

Depending on what operating system you have you can manually enable your wireless..

Google xp, vista, or windows 7 and add to it..enable wireless and you will get the instructions to enable the wireless without the switch.

Try it like this if you have xp

" Windows xp enable wireless "

HP photosmart used to print wirelessly from my Vista loaded laptops. printer was usb connected to desktop with XP. Had to get new hd and reload with XP for desktop and now cannot configure for wireless...

As your printer is not wireless itself I assume you shared the printer. To enable this again goto Control Panel on your desktop, select printers, right click your printer and there should be an option for sharing. Enable sharing.
Now using your Vista laptops you should connect to your home network (in your case this is probably a wireless router, as long as your desktop is connected to this router too), goto Control Panel, printers, add printer, search for printer not connected to this copmputer (or network printer).
Hopefully the Vista laptops will then pick it up and install it correctly. You may be asked to install the correct driver for the vista machines. Windows should provide you with instructions on how to do this.
Hope this helps,www.PuterCare.com

The printer needs to be installed by you as "Adiministrator". When installing the printer you need to hold down the "Alt" button when clicking n Add Printer function. It will then give an option of installing as Administrator.
