Question about Sharp AR-168D Black and White Copier

My copy machine is a Sharp copies but just off center a dark band appears on every copy. I have replaced the toner, but that does not seem to solve the problem. I have no service on the machine and the manual does not seem to help, can you help me please?

Check the drum and blade then wipe with a clean soft cloth and clean the charge units both main and transfer.

System error (U2-40)

This is a problem showing conflict in toner sensor . It is caused by either bad toner cartridge or short circuiting caused by toner spills around the sensor areas.
Remove the cartridge out and wipe the sensor area and push it back. Then key in C-Auto- C- Auto in that order and enter 16 and press copy key. If it comes back, then replace toner cartridge Ar168ft cartridge.

My copies are not very dark

Is the problem only with copies? Does the machine also print light?
If is it copy only, remove the glass and clean the lamp and mirrors in the scanner.
If it is both copy and print, then you should clean the laser shield glass and replace the developer.

How to refill sharp 168d

First open the right-side door, then depress the upper side tabs of the front door to open it.

The toner bottle has a green, square plastic thumb grip on the top, front part of the bottle. Press down on this part as you pull forward. You should be able to remove the bottle and replace it. Make sure the new toner bottle fully seats before closing the unit up.

Close the front door, then the right-side door and the machine should recognize the new cartridge.

If you're looking to have the bottle re-filled, you will need to contact one of the third-party companies that refills and sells toner bottles. I would advise purchasing a new, authentic bottle of Sharp toner for this unit, as re-filled, non-Sharp toner providers have a history of selling poor quality toner refill kits.

My SHARP AR-168D is not recognizing a new toner cartridge.

Make sure what you've got is Sharp's AR168NT and not AR152NT. Sharp mades changes about a year ago to their toner and the chip on an AR152NT will not work with an AR-168D model.

How to know if you need a new fuser unit

Your light is either a developer or a periodic maintenance indicator. Both are set to 25,000 copies. There is no indicator for the fuser which is rated at 50,000 copies (I find they fail any time after approx 35,000) The fuser will eventually not be able to keep itself clean causing dirty offset copies or jamming under the fuser picker fingers.There is no indicator for the drum . At 25,000 the drum and developer should be changed to maintain good copy quality. Whether your pm indicator lamp will shut down your machine is based on a service setting but since your past 25,000 it's probably set to not stop.
