I own an RCA A-20 radio circa 1940? I bought it at an estate auction several years ago. the glass tubes 'light up" but no sound. Is this worth repairing and is it something I can do myself?

Your problem could be due to a "bad" tube or any one of a long list of other things. Typical repairs would likely run at least $75, and you could spend that much replacing tubes. Unless the set has high sentimental value it's probably not worth fixing. I don't show any "A" series RCA sets, so I can't validate the set's age or value.

The buttons on my clock radio no longer

Got the same problem than you, those black button on back row can easily fall inside the unit.

RCA customer support told me it was the first time they heard about this particular problem and it was not a manufacturing defect. Therefore I would have to pay labor and shipping to get it fix, even if it's still under warranty.

$36 Labour + $20 Shipping= $56
The alarm clock it self is worth $30

I learned my lesson with RCA

Picture tube doesn't seem to stay in place (standard tv)

A very good chance this tv was dropped or bumped. Sounds like the internal plastic frame is broken and will not support the picture tube. Find someone with tv experience to fix this. I would suggest they use a putty found at an auto parts store. To glue the tube and the frame together. This putty is in a plastic tube. You tear off a piece and fold it several times to activate. It will surely do the job.
