HP ZD8000 won't power on

Yesterday I rebooted my laptop. Everything worked fine after that. After the reboot screen remained black and only the Power led and the AC led were on. So I unplugged the AC adapter (battery is dead) and replugged it after a minute. 

The notebook seems to be DEAD :( No power when I press the Power on button. Only the AC led is on.
I tried to remove static charge by removing all cables and pressing Power on button for a minute but no luck.

Any advice?

Clarification Request

Have you tried to test the power adapter to see if it is putting out the required voltage (about 18 volts, if I remember correctly)?
