Question about Dell Inspiron 9400 Notebook

1 Answer

Running with AC power, my Dell Inspiron 9400 would randomly show the Blue screen. After a few times of rebooting, I could see the Windows logo with horizontal white lines about 1 " long. Eventually the screen went black. Now when I attempt a reboot or power up all I get is a black screen. The laptop is about 4 years old and has been treated well. Is it worth repairing? Thanks bob

It was a brilliant laptop ever manufactured. check the costing. for the new laptop as well as the warranty pricing. Yes it is worth repairing, if you can manage the cost. becasue extending warranties would be a cheaper option. The LCD needs to be repalced in your case.

Vertical lines have appeared on sony vaio laptop screen

Hello,

If the liens are coming during Dell logo also means the screen is going.
If these are visible when OS boots up then reinstallation of graphics driver will solve the issue.

Thanks

When i start my Dell 9400 up and it takes 10 mins to load to windows XP, , when the windows loading screen comes up the FANS go crazy. I then wait till i'm at the desktop at which point i immediately shut...

Your battery HAS to stay in if its not working which means the OS needs the extra power.
If your fans are going crazy then your laptop is overheating!!!

Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop display problem

First power the system on using Fn+Power and see if the diags run and you have video. If you have video in the diagnostics, then I'd suspect the video card as the failure point.
Also connect an external monitor and press Fn + F8 to activate the VGA port If you get video on an external monitor, I'd suspect the LCD as the failure point.

I have a dell Inspirion 9400 and it won't start. When I press the power button, all that happens is the power light and the dvd player light comes on and about 3 seconds it turns off. Does it with and...

It shows no power on your laptop but it shows you the dvd player led comes on then off. I would suggest try the following:
1. Remove laptop battery, optical drive, hard drive and ram. Remove external peripherals as well. 2. Make sure AC Adapter is not yet connected to the laptop. Press and hold on the laptop's power button for 10 seconds to drain the power flea. 3. Connect the AC Adapter to a known good power outlet, check AC Adapter power LED if it is on. Try to sense if AC Adapter is not making a bit of noise when it is plugin to the wall power outlet. 4. Connect now the AC Adapter to the laptop. Check if AC Adapter LED stays on when it is connected to the laptop. If the LED stays on means the AC Adapter is fine. If the AC Adapter LED turned off check the AC Adapter pin that goes to the laptop AC socket if it is loose. 5. If AC Adapter stays on after connecting to the laptop try to power on laptop. If no power LED comes on then this is motherboard problem. 6. Before replacing the motherboard there is one checking needs to do. If you can open your laptop bottom part then good, do this when laptop is not connected to any power source. Try to reseat the laptop CMOS battery then try to power on laptop after, if still fails then replace motherboard. I hope this helps.

Check the power options to verify that the screen is not powered down after to short a time. It is in the control panel under power options or in a Dell management utility

Dell 9400 wont show AC power icon

If the computer is connected to an electrical outlet, the about10.jpg light operates as follows:
  • Solid green: The battery is charging.

  • Flashing green: The battery is almost fully charged.

If the computer is running on a battery, the about41.jpg light operates as follows:
  • Off: The battery is adequately charged (or the computer is turned off).

  • Flashing orange: The battery charge is low.

  • Solid orange: The battery charge is critically low.
Looks like the AC adaptor is faulty.

If you purchased your I6000 after 2005, then it still has the PC Restore option. For Dell system with Windows XP, your can restore your computer to factory settings by pressing CTRL+F11 when you see the page after the big DELL Logo. It's a BLACK SCREEN with a blue bar at the top and it has www.dell.com written in white. Usually this screen will show up in between the DELL Logo and Windows Logo.

Not a typical backlight issue

Hi!

You can check the brightness with AC in the BIOS and match it with running in battery or else, when you plug the ac adapter, the lcd goes dim, press and hold the FN buttong and tap the up arrow then reboot and try to see if it will still do it. But still the best way to do it is going to the BIOS by pressing F2 at the Dell logo startup.

Hope this helps!
