press the FN and F4 keys similtaneously. That will switch the monitor from the LCD to the external monitor. But look on your keyboard it will indicate which buttons to do this for your model. The indication is hughlighted by the blue icons on the keyboard?

Good day, Cyko!
Here is what microsoft has to say about that:
In reading through this, you'll note that they suggest that some docking devices, or a usb adapter for monitors may allow you to run multiple monitors.

SOURCE: I try to boot up
If you did press on Fn+F5 when you connected an external monitor on your portable system, the problem lies on the video card of your computer. You may need to have it replaced. If you do not see nothing at all on your LCD display or the external monitor, definitely your video card is busted. But if you at least see something before you get the blank screen, there might still be a bit of hope. Try the following troubleshooting step in case.
1. Boot to the Advanced boot option by tapping on F8 as you turn your computer on. 2. Go to the device manager. (windows key + r, then type devmgmt.msc, then press ok) 3. Click on the plus sign on the display adapter. 4. Right click on the device listed under the display adapter then choose uninstall. 5. Restart the computer to normal mode. 6. Download and install the appropriate video driver that is available on the link.
ATI Video driver
Intel Video driver
Nvidia Video driver
Note: Make sure that you remember the correct driver for your computer as Acer posts three possible video cards for the computer model that you have.
