I tryed to turn on my windows update but it wont work i tryed run-supportMSC and turn it on that way and when i gat into propertys it will not let use the run with 98 ect. is there any softwar i can download fron microsoft downloads. i am using dell dimension xp please help thank you

In windows you can find the program you want to run and then tell windows to emulate a previous version. If you are working within VISTA then you right click the actual program ICON (NOt a shortcut on desktop) and choose properties you wll see a tab called COMPATIBILITY. In the top you will RUN THIS PROGRAM IN COMPATIBILITY MODE FOR ######## here you can choose a previous version of Windows such as XP or earlier to use. Try having the program run in compatibility mode to determine if it can find the Sound Card. Its possible a driver update or other Windows update in VISTA is incompatible with the device.

go to run dialog and type services.msc and select the Automatic Updates (Windows XP) and right click and select the start option.

In Vista got to services.msc and start the windows update service.

After starting the service select the same service and Right clich on that service and select properties in general tab select the startup type as automatic. and click ok on properties dialog.

Yes, chances are you can't install it on a windows vista Operating system, suggesting to check website of the game and look for updates if there are any that will make it run with vista. look for a patch or update for it.

You can try the following and it should clear it up.

Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder in C:windows (it will be recreated next time you visit Windows Update again)
You will lose your history but that's not important.
If the above step doesnt clear it up continue below:
Click Start, Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service. ( with Vista it may read Windows
Update)
Click Stop.
Stopping the service will take a moment.

Rename the "SoftwareDistribution" folder:
a. Click Start, click Run, type %systemroot%, and then click OK.
b. Right-click the SoftwareDistribution folder, and then click Rename.
c. Type SoftwareDistribution.old, and then press ENTER to rename this folder.

Click Start. Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Start.
Starting the service will take a moment.

Retry Windows Update before reading further.
