Question about Everex StepNote VA4103M Notebook

1 Answer

Same situation - Everex VA 4103M recog 1 gig when have TWO

I have the same situation - I bought two 1-Gig sticks, and the computer shows only ONE total gig (minus the shared video). I have looked for BIOS update with no luck as well. I suspect that the help folks at Cosair will tell me to deal with Everex on this - but they are gone gone gone. No phone, no website, nothing! Any help would be great.

Mine will not see 2 gig either... i tried putting the 1 gig and the original 512mb in, and it does see all 1.5 gig... not a perfect solution, but better than only one gig.

My computer will only see 950mb of 2gb of ram installed. anyone know of a solution?

Power OFF computer and swap the memory modules with each other.
If you have two modules, swap them. If you have one module, remove and re-seat it.

If you have more than one module, they may be different.
Boot with only one module, test and then the other modules, one at a time.

One of the ram isnt recognised???

This is likely a memory timing incompatibility. You can go into the BIOS settings of many motherboards and set the timing specifically for each RAM slot, but without knowing exactly which piece of RAM you have I can't tell you what to set it at. You could use the utility CPU Z, install one stick, run the utility and write down all the memory information, then install the other stick and write it down too. Then go into your BIOS and see if you can set all of your specifications to match the memory.

Of course if you could find someone to swap sticks with that would be easier. Some motherboards are more picky than others about which sticks they work well with, name brand manufacturers are more picky than aftermarket in general.

Toshiba sattelite

The problem must be the amount of total memory. Maybe the board supports only 1 gig. Chek the manual.

4gigs ram

Switch sticks around in various combinations (2 gig in slot one, 1 gig in slot two, switch, try other stick, etc) and see if it is the memory or the motherboard.

2 gig ram stick

Absolutely, 2 Gigs stick of RAM exist. Unfortunately your motherboard's maximum memory supported is 2GB. This site specifies very clearly 1 gig stick max per slot:

Memory/Graphic problem

This might have something to do with DVMT or Digital Video Memory Technology. Basically, the amount of video memory is dependent on the amount of memory installed. I'm not very familiar with acer system BIOS but try to look for VIDEO under system BIOS and try to select any fixed video memory if possible. you can also try to disable DVMT.
