Question about Televison & Video

Need a solution

T.V. is about one year old. We have 3 of the same make. The screen on the newest T.V. turns 90% black on, so far, 3 Channels. Comcast came out and said it has nothing to do with them since we are getting a signal. need a solution. Will you advise? Thank you. Richard Shepherd, San Ramon, Ca. 94583

    Called my service agency in Dublin, Ca. I talhed to them yesterday about problem and they wanted me to check with Comcast first. Comcast here and stated problem not their's because we are getting a signal to all TV's. I then took a chance and contacted you (Toshiba) and asked for some advise. After going around and around and paying $9.99 you responded (Benimur) (Mr. Horn)that the problem was the Tuner or Audio or --- unplug for a few hours. Today I called back my Service Agency, (john & Cameron) and repeated your cure. John told me to get my remote, press CC or closed caption, Scroll till "off" appears and hit enter. Results: Black Box is gone!!!! For your information.

Sounds like a tuner or video problem. I have to agree with Comcast, if it were a loss of signal problem, what you would see normally is a blue screen (video mute) and/or more often than not same problem on all channels. Off hand, the only easy user thing you can do would be to do a hard reset, that is unplug the unit from the mains or a couple of hours. If after the hard reset things are still the same, then perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified service technician.

Should you wish to venture a do-it-yourself diagnosis, you need to be comfortable working with electronic components and circuitry, familiarity with a DVM and perhaps even a soldering iron. Diagnosis would relatively be easy since you have 2 other units that you can use as a template for readings. Still you can go through board swapping until you have isolated the defect.

Hope that this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information. Likewise, pls include brand/model of your TV.

    If you would go through the DIY, the usual precautions of course applies when working with electronics. Presence of extremely high voltage, capacitor discharge and others. Work safe, be safe.

    Sorry to hear that you have to be "...going around and around ..."

TV was working fine and then the picture has totally gone, just a Black screen as though it is switched off, Audio on all channels are fine and turns over as normal. No Text no nothing on the screen...

step 1 : at first test your fly back transformer

Help. I got a used TruTech t200d for my nine year old. we were able to hook up and play on playstation 2, but are unable to get the tv to pick up the comcast channels. we do not have the trutech remote...

U able to go into the tv Menu?Yes,goto SETUP changes Pick CABLE and scan for channels for the Comcast CABLE channels.Or Try website like to buy an original tv remote.

Local Comcast provider is switching to more digital programming

you will need the adapter and the good news is, the box is free, the downside to this is the panasonic recorder is going to need to only record on channel 3 or 4(there is a switch on the back of the comcast box) and the comcast box will need to be on the channel the program is on. I.E. Panasonic recording channel 3 or 4 from 10-11 am comcast box on channel 55 during that time.

Problem is solved. I unplugged my DVR from my receiver for about a minute, reconnected it, and the that solved the problem.
