Ok ...I see that ya displayed the memory series instead of the computer of mother board so that I could verify what compatibility and slots available ya have on the pc ...board..
anyway supposing that ya have an extra-slot ..and you bought the right kinda memory ..there are a few things that might worth thinking to ...
1 ...the memory have to be the same like the other ...I mean if you have ddr and ddr2 slots ...most computers support only one type at the time ...so ..if you was thinking in adding a ddr2 and keep the old ddr one ..forget about ....
second...to be sure that will be no problems the newly added its better be the exact frequency like the other .....I mean the speed...if its on 533mhz ...the other better be the same ...and so on
in what it regards the installation ..yes its as simple as it sounds...just open .,...insert carefully by pressing constant and gentle ..into the slot ...see that it has to locks on the sides..and do not handle the unit by the bear hand...just take it from the ends,,without touching any parts on it ...cause I understood there are very sensitive ...and its an issue with hand moist ..and magnetic field..or so ...
the last part is that you probably will have to remove the bios battery in order to recognize all mem..or at least to bring the settings top the optimal defaults ...but ...I had some issues sometimes that it would not want to boot at all ...and thats why I said to remove the battery ..cause if you dont boot ..you can not change settings but this way ...
remember that it might as well just boot without problem from the first time .....or not boot at all ( in case remove battery ) .. or boot but not read the new unit ...in this case remove battery ..restore time and ...etc..and reinstall operating system ...
anyway ...in all cases you better reinstall the operating system ..in order to make it recognize and take in all full features the newly installed unit and work at full capacity ..
Good lick ...and prompt me if you have answers...dont be scared..I have a way in complicating things ...it looks more complicated that it is ...in sort ..insert...rem battery ..reboot...and reinstall

My Gateway DX300X desktop is super slow and only has 0.99 GB of RAM. How do I install more?

According to specs, your computer can use up to 4Gb of memory. You will need to open the case and see what is currently installed. You should have 4 memory slots and probably it came configured with 2 512Mb memory sticks. You could add 2 more sticks of 1Gb each bringing your total up to 3Gb, but my suggestion would be to remove the existing memory modules and install 4 matching 1Gb modules. You must use DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non-ECC) type memory and the best results will be achieved by using all matching modules.

RAM upgrade

(1) flip the Notebook/Laptop PC over - see Fig.1 below
(2) find the memory cover - it really easy to find in this photo.

Fig.1 Toshiba M35X bottom view - the memory cover is seen at center left and secured by a single screw.

(3) remove the (1) screw securing the memory cover.

Fig. 2 Toshiba M35X laptop shown with memory cover removed and HDD (Hard Disk Drive) removed, and with the HDD cover flipped up.
The RAM (SO-DIMM boards) are visible at center left.
The HDD cover is seen at the bottom of the photo.

(4) Using proper anti-static/static control techniques, clip alligator clip or your anti-static wrist strap to a frame ground of the laptop at an I/O connector or frame ground under the HDD cover.
(5) carefully remove (2) old 256 MB SO-DIMM DDR333 memory modules.
Store old memory boards in the anti-static plastic baggie in which the new memory boards were shipped.
(6) install (2) new 1GB SO-DIMM DDR333 boards, for total of 2GB of system RAM.
(7) reassemble system, and boot OS (operating system).
The laptop's ROM BIOS will auto-detect the new RAM and begin a standard POST (Power-On Self Test).
(8) If OS is MSWindows, it will also auto-detect the new memory, and allocate it to application software.

The technology of the Toshiba Satellite M35X-S349 memory module is called
DDR333, meaning DDR (Double Data Rate) SDRAM (Synchronous Dynamic RAM), at a memory bus speed of 333 MHz.
The Form Factor of the DDR memory card is SO-DIMM, which stands for Small Outline DIMM (Dual In-line Memory Module) (see photo).

Fig.3 Each 1GB SO-DIMM DDR333 memory module will look like this one.
The Toshiba Satellite M35X-S349 supports a maximum of two SO-DIMM memory modules.

Each memory module can hold (a) 256MB, (b) 512MB, or (c) 1GB,
in the SO-DIMM Form Factor compatible with the Toshiba M35X-S349 Notebook PC.

Upgrade ram

In order to upgrade the ram of your desktop. First you have to check the ram specifications. If wrong specifications the desktop will not work. To check you have to remove the ram from your desktop by removing the screws behind your desktop. Open the lid and you will see the contents of your desktop. Besides of your processor, there is ram installed. Unclip it. Then bring that ram to the computer shops. Purchase a ram higher than the ram installed in your desktop. Afterwards, install the new ram to your desktop. Good luck.

I have intel desktop board D865GBF WITH INTEL PENTIUM 4 PROCESSOR PLEASE SUGGEST ME SOME ACCESSORY FOR UPGRADING MY PC PERFORMANCE AND QUALITY

You can start with the CPU. Here is a list of supported processors for your motherboard.

http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/D865GBF/sb/CS-026966.htm

Then your RAM can be increased. See this page for approved/tested RAM modules:

http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/D865GBF/sb/CS-027111.htm

If you should install 4 1GB modules, you will only show 3.5 if you use a 32-bit operating system.

The third thing you can do is to add or upgrade a video card. This board has an 8X AGP slot. It is compatible with 0.8V or 1.5V cards only. Install one with the greatest amount of memory you can afford. Suggest 512MB or 1GB.

Those are the main improvements you can make to this, or any board for that matter.

Good luck. Thanks for using Fixya.

I need a diagram of how to get inside my C521 to put in additional memory modules. I have 2 1GB modules that I just purchased from Dell. I don't have a manual with instructions on how to get into the...

Good day sir/maam, you need to open the side cover of the dell PC, now look at the picture below:

Turn the PC off, the encircled part is the memory slot, on its side is the release/locking lever, place the lever in the release (push it on the side) now insert the module vertically with then gently push it down until the lever snaps into lock. Do it with the next module, takes a little practice, if the module is snug and fit. thats it. Power on the PC. if you hear continuos
beeping, power the pc off, remove the modules and do the installation again. Do this several times until the PC response.

INSTALLED 1 GB MEM STICK AND NOW COMPUTER WON'T START?

The memory module you installed may not be the correct type. Try removing it and if the computer starts fine after that, the memory is either wrong for your computer, or it is a bad module.

Go to www.crucial.com and run their memory scan tool. It will tell you the exact type of memory your computer uses. Compare that information to the sticker on your memory module.

Dell PE 1600SC invalid memory configuration detected

You may need to install memory in matching pairs. If the new memory is a single 1Gb module and you didn't already have a similar one they may not work together. Try removing the original module(s) and see if it makes a difference.
