If its new try to ask for a replacement if its not its probably need cleaning...remove the back lid where the scroll ball is then remove the ball and you can see if there is dirt inside..so clean it by using cotton buds or your finger will do...hope itll help!

How do I make my scroll wheel work again? It just quit working. Now, I have to click the wheel and move the mouse up or down and it scrolls the page on its own. Nothing happens if I roll the wheel.

If you turn it over you should see 3 or 4 screws in a recess. Sometimes they are covered with stickers. Take the mouse apart and you will see the wheel mechanism and sensors. Clean all the inside with a soft brush.

Or

You could just throw it away and buy a nice new shiny optical wireless mouse.

Installation

Any piece of wireless hardware like a mouse of keyboard usually has a mating switch on it that you press to allow it to mate with the usb receiver plugged into the computer.

Press this and within a few seconds the mouse will work once again.

THIS MAYBE A WINDOWS DEFENDER AND WINDOWS FIREWALL ISSUE, DIS ABLE ALL TO SEE IF IF IS THE PROBLEM.

TRY GO THREW ADDING NEW DEVICES IN THE CONTROL PANEL.

Microsoft notebook mouse 5000 Wheel scroll stopped

Fixing the wheel/scroll malfunction was as simple as a reboot. I usually shut down in hibernate. Apparently the system needed a complete reboot to reset.

Pages "roll"

Hi Randy329,

Thanks for your posting in FIXYA.

Method 1:
Please remove the Mouse connector from the PC cabinet. Reboot it.

Again plug it then try.

Also check your device manager if showing any yellow mark.

Method 2:
Go To Control panel -- > Select Mouse -- > Open the Tab --> Wheel --> Check its speed set it up 3-5. Please uncheck "One Screen at a Time", if selected.

First try to reinstall the updated driver for your mouse. If this does not work, it could be that the mouse is worn out and you may need to replace it...
