Ive recieved a junk email asking me to update my account but if i click a link to it or the log in link it says 'microsoft cannot display the webpage' is this spoof email?

Yes, more then likely you are getting a spoof e-mail address where they are trying to trick you to log onto thier fake website, where they are just stealing your account information. I highly suggest going to paypal.com and changing your password, and hint questions on the account.

That's okay, it'll just take a few extra steps. Go to Recover your Microsoft account and do the following:
  1. In the Microsoft account box, enter the phone number for the Microsoft account you're trying to access.

Cancel a PayPal Payment

Sign in to PayPal.

How do i recover my password?


You will have to reset your password to your Microsoft account online.

To reset your Microsoft account password online, go to the Get back into your account page and follow these steps:
  1. In the first text box, enter your Microsoft account.
    Note If you don't know your Microsoft account, see Find your Microsoft account email address or password.
  2. In the second text box, type the characters displayed on the screen. This is to verify that you aren't a robot.
  3. Click Next.
On the next screen, you'll be given the option of having a reset link sent to you by email, or having a code sent to your phone.
Choose the option that works best for you:
  • Email me a reset link: Choose this option to have a reset link sent to the alternate email address that's associated with your account. When you open the password reset email, click the link to reset your password.
  • Send a code to my phone: Choose this option if you have associated a phone with your account where you can receive a security code by text or voicemail. If you choose this option, you'll be asked to re-enter the last 4 digits of your phone number as an additional security measure.
What to do if you can't use any of the password reset options

Password recovery


Unfortunately, if you cannot remember your profile password you are going to have to reset the password to your Microsoft account online.

I forgot my password


If you cannot remember your password and you have put in an incorrect one multiple times you may have temporarily locked the account. You'll have to go online with a computer and reset your password.

To reset your Microsoft account password online, go to the Get back into your account page and follow these steps:
  1. In the first text box, enter your Microsoft account.
    Note If you don't know your Microsoft account, see Find your Microsoft account email address or password.
  2. In the second text box, type the characters displayed on the screen. This is to verify that you aren't a robot.
  3. Click Next.
On the next screen, you'll be given the option of having a reset link sent to you by email, or having a code sent to your phone.
Choose the option that works best for you:
  • Email me a reset link: Choose this option to have a reset link sent to the alternate email address that's associated with your account. When you open the password reset email, click the link to reset your password.
  • Send a code to my phone: Choose this option if you have associated a phone with your account where you can receive a security code by text or voicemail. If you choose this option, you'll be asked to re-enter the last 4 digits of your phone number as an additional security measure.
What to do if you can't use any of the password reset options
If you can't use any of the password reset options, you can still access your Microsoft account by completing an online account recovery form. To do this, go to Recover your Microsoft account and follow these steps:
  1. In the Email address text box, enter the email address for the Microsoft account you're trying to access.
  2. In the Contact email address text box, enter acurrent email address where we can contact you.

Click the blue "Update" link next to "My Preapproved Payments."
A list will appear, with the merchants who you have agreed to automatically pay via your PayPal account.

All merchants you've ever agreed to reoccurring payments with will appear.
Click on the desired merchant.

Click the blue "Cancel" button next to "Status" at the top.
Click "Yes" when a confirmation box appears.

Once the payment is successfully canceled, you will see "Canceled on XX," where XX is the date.

other than that you will need to contact paypal give them a free call 1800-073-266
6.00 to 22.00 AEST/AEDT to resolve this issue
they might ask you some personal details you made when you first made your paypal account so i you can remember these have them ready
