It could be the steam solenoid or the small hole in the group head next to the screw holes gets blocked up as well.

My Gaggia Classic makes a noise that sounds like something is stuck and no coffee comes out. Can I fis it my self? Jon

as far as i know:

if water comes out thru the open steam exit running the pump, get out the vinegar immediately ( it/s eating the alu boiler) dissemble magnet valve and free the little whole in it with a needle, machine should run again, otherwise check electric function of magnet valve.

if no water comes out of the machine through the open steam exit, open the boiler immediately, get out the vinegar and check the pump.

The in formation on this page is for use of technicians and experienced persons. All others do so at their own risk.

Traditional Home Espresso Machines Have the Following Parts:
1. A brass or aluminum boiler (16 to 40 oz. capacity).
2. A boiler outlet valve to help increase the pressure of water, before it is pumped through coffee grounds.
3. An oscillating pump with or without external thermostat.
4. A steam valve with a knob to open & close steam/hot water outlet.
5. Thermostat to limit temperature of water or steam.
Limit for espresso water temperature: 90°C to 98°C
Limit for steam temperature: between 127°C to 152°C.
6. A thermofuse to shut power supply when temperature in the boiler exceeds the higher limit (usually 185°C).
7. Solenoid valve (selected Gaggia models only).
8. A filter cup holder handle to place ground coffee for extraction of espresso.
The pump models generally are easy to open. In most brands, the top cover is fixed with two to four screws. In the Barista/Rio Vapore models, the top cover curves around to the back and the top has two screws. The front end has about 1/3" 90 degree fold. This folded lip is wedged between two plates. It may be necessary to use a long screw driver or other rod, pushed under the top cover, alternatively on either side of the machine to nudge the cover free and lift up. Note the slide along the left side in the picture below. Once the top cover is taken off, the entire internal set up can be viewed. The pictures below show two popular models:
1. Gaggia Model Espresso (without solenoid valve)
2. Saeco Espresso Classico (rapid steam model)

Hi, My Gaggia Classic is not working. No water

try to clean the group shower which it can be ansrew by one cetrer screw and if you can you can open the machine and remove to clean also the coffee group solenoid valve. Bothe the valve and shower can be full of dry coffee that can blocked the way of water coming to the grounded coffee.
If you manage to clean everything above and the machine work ok so from now on in order to avoid the problem again try to flush water from the group many times without any coffee. With this is like you wash the group shower and valve from any remai coffee.
Good luck

Hi my Gaggia Classic is not pumping water out of the perculator head, I have flushed the screen and the motor is running ok and the steam attachment works fine?

If you can get hot water from the wand, then the problem is in the boiler fitting that feed the head, try descaling again, or remove the screen and diffuser and clean area or backwash machine.

Replace the thermostat for the steamvalve, it is not keeping the element on long enough or you need to descale boiler because there is not enough room for water.

The water coming out of the steam nozzle is clear but fromthe brew head it is milky looking. I have descaled

That's ok .
The water from the steam nozzle is straight from a boiler.
Where as the brew head is fed from another boiler via the brew unit,so you will still have some coffee in the system.
If you wanted to you can rinse the brew head by making preground coffee without coffee this will flush it clean.

Gaggia Coffee Classic Steam Valve Leaking - No Pressure!!

Yes it can be repaired if you have the parts, you will need the complete steam valve with the o-ring that connects to the boiler check the diagram below.

Water wont flow past brew head

Hi there, it sounds like your boiler may be full of scale. There is a copper tube which runs from the group up inside the boiler which can get clogged up quite easily. When you take the group apart you will see that when you remove the shower plate and unscrew the bolt in the middle the safety valve and spring will pop out and then if you get a pipe cleaner or something similar and ram it up through the copper pipe. If this does not work then you may have to dimantle the boiler and give it a good clean out. Also although you say the pump is primed it could still be broken. All these problems usually come from scale though. If you get some descaler and try to feed into the boiler by pumping or running water out the steam wand this may free it up.
