The arrow keys aren't working because the first page on the inspiron 8000 is just an information page, nothing can be changed, press alt-P to switch pages, the arrows should work on other pages.

Please try F8 and F12 as well check if those keys are not working. Try downloading the latest BIOS version from the Dell Support Site. Once you download the BIOS update from the support site it might ask you to enter your service tag number from your computer. You can get your service tag from bottom part of your laptop. Once you already updated the BIOS and safe problem F2, F8 and F12 not working, you need to call Dell for keyboard replacement.

Dell inspiron 5315 when trying to boot up it say power save how to fix

Restart your computer
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup usually the Delete or F2 key
this will vary depending on your computer and operating system

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS using the arrow keys load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
if this fails to fix the problem

During the boot process tap the f8 button three times this will boot into safe mode where the only things working will be your mouse and keyboard enabling you to attempt to repair your computer

you could select the option start at last known configuration that worked this will tell what file has been corrupted or missing you might be able to work your way through problem if you are unable to find a solution

restart back into safe mode you might need to select your operating system to load into safe mode

click start control panel administration tools computer management in the left panel events + to expand then system you will see all errors in right panel right click select properties this will tell you what has occurred and the time it occurred

you might use the system restore to restore your system to an earlier time
click start all programs accessories system tools you should see your system restore option

hope this helps

My touch pad is not working on my laptop

Reboot and hit F2 to go into Setup, and make sure the mouse setting is set to touchpad. If this doesn't work then you might wanna check if the driver is installed and working correctly. Also if you updated from windows 200 to xp or newer you won't find any driver for it.

Left and right arrow keys not functioning

check the arrow keys it it's also not functioning in the BIOS:
- restart the system and press F2 five times during the splash screen of the big blue DELL logo to go to the BIOS (System Setup). Then test the arrow keys.
- if arrow keys are also not functioning within the BIOS the the keyboard assembly needs to be replaced.
- if arrow keys are working within the BIOS then reinstall the chipset drivers and keyboard driver found in the Drivers CD/DVD that came with the computer.

How to install xp in dell

you must first tell the computer to boot from the cd and not the hard drive. this is done-> turn the computer on when you see any word it the top right hand corner push F2 on you keyboard. that will get you into the setup. your looking for boot sequence use your arrow keys (mouse doesn't work yet) when you find it hit Enter now you want to put the CD/Rom in the boot first position select it with the arrow keys and use the letter U (up) & D (you got it -down) to put in the first spot.
then hit ENTER then ESC...exit and save
then put the disc in the cd player and reboot...the follow the instructions...it's pretty straight forward.
If you need more help...ask again. Hope this helps

Primary Hard Disk Drive Not Found, Fixed Optical drive Not found

Reseat both the Hard Drive and Optical drive and see if they detect. If they do not, then a HDD failure is most likely. The I8000 is quirky in that if the HDD fails, the Optical drive will not work.

If reseating doesn't resolve, Replace the HDD and the optical drive should work. (Controller is a serial design and neither drive will function if the other fails)

Installed new motherboard for Dell Inspiron 1000- blank screen

The F5 and F8 functions are normally used by Windows to shoose between C:\, Safe Mode and normal boot.

Setup is a function of the BIOS manufacturer and it could be any key but is normally F1 or F2 as the screen says in your case.

I don't know what your specific problem is but it is a new board and sometimes they don't survive the installation due to improper handling.
The almost universal use of CMOS technology makes some of the chips very sensitive to static discharge even with countermeasures in place to protect them.
